I dropped my application off with the county clerk on March 7th. Fingerprints were already done the week before by IdentoGo, I took the required NRA basic pistol safety class March 1st. All 4 references received their forms from the county and mailed them back immediately. Now I’ll have to wait to see if the Honorable Judge Smith keeps his promise to the great citizens of Warren County and issues my permit without restrictions. I figure September will be here before my card. I guess it’s more shotgun and rifle shooting for now.

If the NYSRPA case goes our way, (which it should!!) everyone in NYS will have unrestricted license's. Ruling could down any day now.

Next scheduled date for opinions is this Thursday.. it could in theory come out then...

But all signs are pointing to this one probably going the distance and not dropping until June.


Heller's ruling/opinion dropped 100 days after oral arguments

Mcdonald ruling/opinion came 118 days after oral arguments.

NYSRPA case oral arguments was held November 3rd, which was 167 days ago (as of today this post April 19th 2022)

Now that may seem crazy but let's not look at how long it took for the prior opinions to be made, but let's look at the date at which Heller and McDonald were ruled on

Heller: June 26, 2008

Mcdonald: June 28, 2010


So yes NYSRPA v Corlett COULD be ruled on any day now, but based on how things tend to go with landmark cases, and yes this is going to 100% be a landmark case, best bet is we will get the ruling June 2022...

I’m expecting this opinion to come out as late as possible, and I fully expect that it will leave NYS (and the other may issue states) with a nice, long window to “get it together” in order for “the people of the state of New York” to legislate us back into the dark ages once again. I heart NY.

You got that right, they are already planning some spiteful legislation for sure!!

I emailed the County Clerk’s office to inquire about the status of my application on the day that marked 9 weeks from the day I dropped it off. She said only 3 of my references had returned their letters. The 4th is the one that I thought would be the most reliable. He’s had it for 8 weeks on his desk. I’m so bummed- there are now 80 investigations ahead of me, so even if he mails it in today I’m still looking at a long wait. So much for shooting my pistol this summer…

As of May 11th all of my reference forms have been returned, application is ready to go to the Sheriff’s office for the background check, and the mental health recorders search, etc. I’ll be lucky if it’s only 4 more months. At least I’m in the queue now.

I emailed the person at the Sheriff’s Office who handles background checks. She said she has not received my application from the County Clerk’s office as of 7/14/22. I know that my application was complete and ready to be sent for the BGC on May 13th. I’m so bummed. I can’t imagine what’s taking so long in this supposedly very 2A friendly clerk’s office. Ugh. I’ll be lucky to get issued before Sept 1st. More likely next year, now. Totally disappointed. I was told “4 months to get issued” when I dropped my packet off in March.

As of Friday, Aug 12, the Sheriff’s office has not received my BGC paperwork. The person that runs them says she will email me when she receives it because she is curious why it’s taking so long, too.

Today marks 6 months since I submitted my application. Yesterday, Sept 6th, the Sheriff”s office called my references. Should be another month I’m guessing.

On Sept 19th I emailed the county clerk to ask about amending my pistol license with the semi-auto rifle permit when I pick up my license, and she emailed right back. Said it’s $8 and can be added when I pick up my license, which she then said should be any day now as it’s sitting on the judge’s desk awaiting his signature.

Oct 8th. Mail came today, and I rushed out to the mailbox only to be disappointed yet again. No letter. It’s been 32 days since my references spoke with the fuzz. Sigh.

I remember being like you. Mine took 14 months and 4 months for my references to be contacted. It sucks.

Approved! Finally, as of Oct 19th. Picking up my card on Fri morning (21st) and I’ll add my guns and semi-auto rifle all at the same time. Yeeeeee haaaaawwwww!!!

Card in wallet. I was in/out in 6 minutes with no restrictions and the semi-auto endorsement.
