The reintroduction of wolves to Montana/Wyoming/Yellowstone has on balance been more beneficial than not, despite losses of livestock to ranchers. So I'm willing to be open minded about trying it as it will be mostly slow unarmed liberals that get eaten.

A friend does volunteer work for the Washington State Game Dept. Several years ago they did a research program on the survival rate of Blacktail Deer and the Elk on the Olympic Peninsula. They had several teams on four wheelers around clear cuts and a couple of State guys on the high side looking for Deer Does with fawns and Elk Cows with calves. They would radio the closest team so they could run the fawns & calves so a State guy could put a transmitter on the new born fawns & calves.
When a fawn or calf remained still for 48 hours they would go to the dead fawns & calves to see what happened to them. By the way the carcass was mutilated and eat off they could tell what killed it.
The first year survival rate for both species was only 25%. The number one cause of death was attributed to cougars, the number 2 cause of death was from coyotes, the number three cause of death was from bobcats, the number four cause of death came from bears, the number five cause of death was from humans.
In the second year the kill rate was 50%, so for a deer or elk in that region to live to be 2 years old there was a survival rate dropped down to 12-1/2%. About the same kill rate as mentioned above, but the cougars moved up on the rate of kill where the bobcat & bear kill rate decreased.
So lets throw in another highly sufficient predator that will be probably number two on that list. The two year survival will probably drop down to 6%.
