YesterdayI had an AR out for some final inspection and such in preparation for a sight in session. Put it back in the bag and spent the rest of the day doing house hold stuff with beer's. So this morning I go down to the shop with my cup of high test. I glance over at the bench and see this pin, it is solid, not a roll pin, 1/2" long x 1/8" diameter. I put this gun together and don't recall seeing this. so before I take the whole thing apart in my quest, is there anyone that knows what it is? Seems like I know but just can't connect, ARG!

Check your bolt carrier group. It may be the pin from that. Looks like the one that holds the extractor in place.

I'm pretty confident that's what it is. It goes to the bolt.

Nevermind. On my way back to the shop I remembered I had that old Crossman pellet pistol apart for cleaning and sure enough, I took the grip off and it fits right in to the hole for a retaining lever. I have too much stuff!

Have to say I have had a phobia since the early 90’s about reassembling a bolt carrier group without the bolt cam pin in place and then going to fire it.

So you touched close to a sensitive place! Albeit not quite the same one.
