I'm usually following the weather a week out due to organizing the hikes for my local hiking group.
If I needed to check I suppose that I'd turn on a battery operated radio and tune into one of the local stations

This is by far the most accurate way.
Not good to predict if a storm is on its way.
Might work for the moment, but not for planning.

In the winter time at least, a change in the direction of wind usually signals a big storm. Once the flag switches direction and shows an easterly or north easterly wind, we know it's time to batten down the hatches.

This device was supposedly used by the Vikings. Ancient glass barometer and can help predict bad weather by detecting small barometric changes. If the little cup starts filling, bad weather is on its way. I remember growing up with one in elementary school. Pretty accurate. A millennial would have no idea what it is or might mistake it for a bong. Available by digging around on Etsy.

How do you look at the clouds, plus wind direction to predict what the weather will be tomorrow
Like:
Red sky at night, sailors delight ----red sky in the morning, sailors take warning, type thing
what if the NOAA goes off line, what if nothing electronic works? what if nothing is working and you just have a window to look out of? that will tell you whats happening right now, it doesn't give you an idea of what is coming tomorrow

I had one of these until this spring. Metal corroded and became big chunks of glass when it fell. Had it on the porch for almost 30 years. Now I have a weather system on a 6 foot galvanized pipe on top of my deck cover.
One of these has been on my wish list for a long time.... in my case I want one mainly for flooring and exterior painting but I can think of alot of other things it would be cool to do with... camping, hiking, even shooting... just haven't pulled the trigger on it yet...

How did they do it 150 years ago? You won't likely be able to tell what's going to happen in a week (but the weatherman on tv can't either) but you might be able to get an idea of what a few hours or a day might bring.
Watch the sky. Watch the trees. Watch the birds and other animals. Learn how they react to changes in weather.
My ankle is telling me it's going to rain in a day or so

Cloud formations, color of sky, actions of animals, Red sky at night and morning is misused because it refers to the sky opposite of where the sun is. Western sky in am, eastern sky in pm.
