A play on words indeed. A while back, like a real while back even before moving to America I was very interested in firearm suppression. Somewhat obsessed. I did so much research on subsonic ammo, supersonic vs subsonic effects, and techniques on how to quiet everything down. It was just such cool stuff to me (still is).
Then I wanted to know if an 556 AR could be suppressed. It seemed it could but could not cycle reliably without doing some radical stuff to your rifle. And at that point it would be subsonic only or risk destroying your rifle. Some claimed to have special ammo recipes that would cycle without having to modify your rifle. All paths to try to reliably cycle an unmodified AR led to dead ends though.
Then I stumbled onto Beck Defense. It seems they had done it. But even they said that prolonged use of standard velocity ammo was not recommended. A little while went by and then they announced that they would be coming out with a Gen 2 rifle that would allow you to shoot both standard velocity and subsonic velocity ammo. It was pretty exciting and I pretty much knew how they were going to do it (adjustable gas).
So I put myself on a waiting list and they would email me when the rifle was available for purchase. This was 1.5 to 2 years ago. I had actually forgotten all about it. The entire time they had ceased all sales of their Gen 1. Today I got an email that the Gen 2 was ready to go. And just like I thought, it's an adjustable gas powered rifle. It's surprisingly piston driven.
All good except... well I'll let you see for yourself.
5.56MM CYCLING SUBSONIC RIFLE : CS Upper (5.56 Cycling Subsonic Upper Assembly)
So I guess I'll just keep playing with getting my RFB to cycle 308. I already have a recipe for subsonic ammo that reliably cycles my unmodified AK47 and interestingly enough it's actually quieter than my 300 Black suppressed. 45 is a given and 9mm was easy as pie to tame. I still want to suppress my colt junior but can't find anyone to make an adapter because of its very unique barrel. The Tokarev/PPS43 might see some action some day as well.
