Westchester Permit, Authorization for release of personal Information?

I didn't have to make such a release for mine in Dutchess. Seems like a gross invasion of privacy, and a clear violation of the fourth amendment.

I cannot recall such a form when I applied in Westchester.
Yes, I signed some kind of generic "access to records" form. But, I recall it being a bit less broad.

Wow. My head is spinning from this one. So you have to release all the records of your privileged discussions with your lawyer? What if you work in a business and signed a non-disclosure agreement? How about any martial secrets you share with your wife? etc
The overreach is really obscene. Very likely to be found unconstitutional on its face under both the 4th Amendment and 2nd Amendment.
If anyone is applying for a Westchester license and is willing to have some delay in getting the license so this can be challenged in court please PM me.

Exactly. You shouldn't have to give up your livelihood and break an NDA in order to exercise your second amendment. I'm under multiple NDAs -- so there's no chance I could even legally sign that bullshit agreement if I was applying in this day and age.
I hope someone fights it on those legal grounds, that you can't make someone choose between their income and their rights.

Exactly. Now you have been denied a Constitutional right by a clearly invasive law designed to to just that - infringe on your 2A rights. IANAL but I imagine a case like this where both your 2A and 4A rights are trampled on would be a layup for Jim O or others and could potentially unwind ALL of Westchester County's BS restrictions.

Their argument will be "not getting a pistol permit does not prevent you from buying long guns ipso facto no one is denying you your 2nd amendment rights- you just can't have handguns."
Which I think is often overlooked in these discussions.
On the other hand, I would love to see someone have standing to bring a case on crap like this vis a vis the obvious piercing of HIPAA but I'm not sure how you get there legally.

That is odd, the wife of a friend of mine just got her Westchester permit about 2 months ago, she didn't sign that form.

Any law, even if written, voted and signed into law that is a violation of the Constitution, is not a Law. Refuse! Make damn sure they deny on the grounds of refusal. Don't have 15 drug arrests and use this to fight for a permit. Lol
And no, long guns can't be used for defense as a handgun can, and SCOTUS has made clear, that firearms are in common use for just that.

I Already have a permit this is for a restriction change, but this form is part of the pistol handbook which means its required by all to file for a permit. I just don't remember ever having to sign this. So I'm curious when they slipped this into the requirements.
sorry to bring up an old thread - but i was looking to see how Westcehster was processing amendments these days and saw this same form. Have people signed this? I would sign this if i could put an expiration date, like 90 days from signature. wondering how that would fly. Come to think of it, an amendment to even remove a pistol would require this form.
edit: after my initial anger, i see this is only for restriction changes, not for renewals, ammendments, etc.
Additionally, an authorization form for the release of personal information must be submitted with any amendment request to change the restriction on your license. That form is available at the Department of Public Safety's Pistol License Unit website.
