I'm glad they don't do this shit in Broome, they probably wouldn't approve of my glass door gun cabinet.

@Bullet Guy is right on with the above. If people are not willing to GTFO of NYS, then they will just have to succumb to this bullshit.
No thanks!!
People will have to succumb to this bullshit if they decide not to move out of NY! Are you serious!!!
How about the people in NY, who disagree with NY and its anti-gun bullshit, actually do something drastic to stand up to win our rights and our state back from the truly deplorable anti-gun communists who have so far taken over our once great state! I mean, is giving up and moving out the answer??? Of course, that is a rhetorical question because I know it is not the answer. Imagine if the Founding Fathers had done just that - given up and accepted British tyranny - we would be British right now and under the thumb of the crown. People who think NY state is not worth fighting for - and I am amazed someone here on this site would think we should just give up and move out - are out of their minds in my opinion. If that is what anyone here seriously thinks - nd no disrespect meant - screw those defeatist people wo do not want to think along the lines of: "Goddamn, well I declare, have you seen the like? Their walls are built of cannonballs, their motto is "don't tread on me"."

would need to struck down from the SCOTUS and then all the other acts and the F in ATF .. before NY would change any gun law on the books .. but NY would still be like Cali .. and not believe FED law is above themsullivan act.
I've had two inspections.Question for those that had been inspected in Westchester, does it have to be a safe safe? or can it be a metal gun cabinet with just a keylock?
thank you! thats good to hear.I've had two inspections.
Lead detective to the safe. Show its locked. That's it. I don't think that the law specifies how firearms are to be specifically secured. They need to be "inaccessible to prohibited persons." So, your metal box with a lock should be fine.
You will not be asked to open any storage. I gestured to pull on my safe to show it is bolted down. Before I could touch it, the detective said, "Don't open it. Don't open it."

So they just come to your home at will or do they allow you to make an appointment?I've had two inspections.

By appointment only.So they just come to your home at will or do they allow you to make an appointment?
I've done this 3 times.
A detective will come to your home.
They'll ask you a bunch of questions on a survey form (how many hours a day is the house unoccupied, how many entrances on main level, do you have an alarm system)
...
A buddy of mine who lives in Westchester had a visit after obtaining his 12th pistol. Nothing before that. When I lived in Westchester in the early 80's, the local PD detective would come for an inspection after 4 guns on your permit. Back then, you went through your local PD for the permit and they just forwarded the paperwork to the county.
Interesting.
I cant speak for now but for a long time when it came to documenting a safe for permit purposes, in Putnam you had to submit pictures including pics showing it was bolted down / secured.
