NYC asks for a picture and receipt of your safe when adding a 5th handgun. From what I have heard they do "safe storage" inspections to only some gun owners that own more than 4 handguns, and they are also scheduled in advanced.
I don't know all the details regarding this case but this guy got railroaded by the New Yorkistan gestapo, I'm not sure if it was a surprise inspection, and he should have known better than to have "undocumented" toys in plain view if he had a gun safe inspection appointment with NYPD

Glenn, I gave you a like for this post because I agree with your sentiment. However, having said that, let me also add that until NYS has to figure out how they are going to pay for all of the social programs ABSOLUTELY nothing will change. You see, unfortunately for all the hard working producers this system of "voter fraud (you know, buying votes with your money!!) will never cease. Until enough people either figure out how to overthrow (figuratively speaking of course!!) the NYS government, or enough leave and take their money (you know, tax dollars!) with them and toss NYS into the abyss of insolvency NOTHING will change. Now, I really don't think the good people of NYS are prepared to kick ALL of the scum from the government (INCLUDING a total reset of EVERY seat!!), so that really doesn't leave any other choice if people want to live freely! You may not agree with mine, and many other's decision to leave, but I will always do what I feel is best for me and my Family. I owe absolutely ZERO allegiance to a state which has no respect for it's citizens, or any compassion for the people who have worked hard their entire lives. Anyone who thinks it is o.k. to stick around and have their right trampled on, and to watch their life's work get taxed away to people who haven't worked for 3 or 4 generations, all the while shouting "damn the torpedoes", can have it. As for me and my Family.... life is GREAT for us in the Other America!!

I've said it before, and I'll say it again here. There are more gun owners in New York State than there were ballots cast in the last gubernatorial election. If gun owners in New York really gave a shit and came together, we could have had a decent Governor in the Executive Mansion long ago, and the SAFE Act would never have happened.
But the sad fact is, New York gun owners are pussies. Those of us who actually care about our rights and the exercise thereof are really an insignificant minority here in New York. Cuomo was right when he said we are not welcome in New York. And I implore every freedom-loving American who resides in this shithole state to leave it, post-haste.

@Bullet Guy and others... I know what you're saying, and my posts in the past actually agree with you. I've said that in my opinion, over time, the country will reshape itself with those who fall to a particular brand of political beliefs migrating to be in and around others who are like themselves. Kind of the way it's happening already on big city/metropolitan areas. Just not sure if it's because of this that people move there, or once you're there the mind melding changes your brain & beliefs... My point was really more to highlight the fact that in doing so, is a major encumbrance to be placed upon regular every day Joe's... It takes time, planning and a good chunk of financial resources to move, and sometimes subsequent consequences is loss of employment or change in vocation, whereas those who are well-off do not suffer these encumbrances and move freely. I don't completely disagree with you as I said, hell... I've thought about ditching this god-forsaken State so many times it isn't funny! Lol... I've had two inspections.
Lead detective to the safe. Show its locked. That's it. I don't think that the law specifies how firearms are to be specifically secured. They need to be "inaccessible to prohibited persons." So, your metal box with a lock should be fine.
You will not be asked to open any storage. I gestured to pull on my safe to show it is bolted down. Before I could touch it, the detective said, "Don't open it. Don't open it."

Interesting.
I cant speak for now but for a long time when it came to documenting a safe for permit purposes, in Putnam you had to submit pictures including pics showing it was bolted down / secured.

None of this is anyone's business to collect -- although, if the purpose is to advise you on how to store them better, just as a person to person assessment at the moment, then that's fine and reasonable. Should the state know, though? Not really.
