What advocacy organization do you support in NYS?

I am curious if there are any advocacy groups or firearms organizations that are really worth supporting in NYS. I joined NYSFA a few month back but all I really see from them is angry posts on their FB page and not much in the way of anything they are doing.

I just joined the NRA... just because it’s the NRA and even though my $100 is probably going to be spent on new suits for LaPierre... they apparently still do some good in D.C. politics. I waived the free gift but 2 weeks later still haven’t gotten the welcome pack and my ID card.

2ANYS is an organization that only just came onto my radar this week and I like what they are saying.

Bottom line though is... can any of them actually change NYS? It seems with FUAC in charge along with the state being run by dems, all these organizations just end up taking money but not really making anything better. Maybe the idea is they just keep it from getting worse?

I just picked up a flyer from the New Jersey Rifle/Pistol association ( that might not be the exact name ) and while I was waiting to shoot at Thunder Mountain, I was struck by the power they have in NJ and how they successfully threatened Gov Murphy with a lawsuit if he didn’t allow gun ranges and stores to reopen as essential. Meanwhile in NY FUAC Just continues to do whatever the Fuck he wants to do with the gun industry.

Almost everywhere I would be able to join as a member locally to me (range/clubwise) requires NYSRPA and, often, NRA membership. I believe the Putnam County Firearms Owners Association does, as well (members please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong).

I refuse to do so. So basically I am stuck with Blue Mountain and the 50 yard range in my backyard, and networking with you fine fellow forumites, rather than going out in the actual world and meeting fellow gun enthusiasts.

I was a member of NRA and SCOPE just so I could list it on my application. Never renewed them afterward. NRA keeps sending me membership stickers and shit trying to get me to renew.

Why do most clubs require NRA membership? Is it just a leftover from the days that the NRA at least pretended to support our rights? Too many FUDDS that think they still do? Kickbacks?

Although this is a great gesture, an air rifle donation does nothing to help legally remove restrictions already in place. Its more inline with handing someone a glass of water as a consolidation prize to put out a house fire.

True, but still a gun owner nonetheless. Additionally, with regards to my original post, I haven't yet run into many if any fudds on this forum ( regarding organizing an advocacy group of forum members).

As to the NRA and assistance from them within NY, I believe they think this state is already a lost cause, and investment in turning it around for them is throwing good money at a already bad situation, mostly because it doesn't truly affect thier main base of operation. Not that they wouldn't happily take your money and show zero support....seems to be thier MO for NY'ers...
Additionally, we need only look at the lack of support by other lobbyists for or within NYS regarding gun laws to see the overall picture for them is bleak, leading me to believe thier inaction has some basis in reality, that for them, they cannot get things done, therefore do nothing.
Since it has little impact on them ( the NRA or others) there is little motivation to remove the unjust....an entirely different scenario for all of the members here as it affects our every day.

So back ( admittedly long winded) to the original question......

Odd, but not surprising. I would believe "free states" donation levels to be much less while heavily legislated states to naturally be more ( EX- NY, CA, NJ, MA ECT.)

Just helps lead me to my earlier conclusion, higher donation rates do not lead to higher representation within that state.

True. But in its purist form, representation from within the state, by owners themselves, knowing what needs to be addressed first, would undoubtably be best. Alignment of the vision from all members should and would be paramount, not 5k suits ( and I don't mean lawsuits, as many of them would be required ). Everything has a cost, tangible or intangible, but expending the available resources targeted directly at ALL the members vision to tackle the big issues would and should be the goal. Raise the capital to tackle the problems systematically, one at a time, based on the greatest vision of all the members ASAP, not purely focused ( as on nearly entirely focus on AKA the NRA), fundraising. Sounds like an idea for a hypothetical thread question......hmmmm...
