Just as it was when you chose which gun to carry, it comes down to understanding your needs and your abilities, combined with a realistic assessment of what will work best for you under stress. The good news is, even though you can’t read that menu… You can still accurately shoot your handgun no matter how old your eyes are! Which is the best pistol sight for old eyes? It depends on you and your needs, but I hope this information can help guide you to your perfect solution.
Cataract surgery put me back in the game. I still have to wear transition bifocals. Iron sights never looked better. I do cheat and paint my front sights fluorescent orange.

I have to wear +1.25 to see the front sight clearly. At self defense distance in the house a clear front sight isn’t really a big deal on a human sized target. I can still hit 4” plates at 15 yards without my shooting glasses. However a tritium front sight does help a lot for low light level shooting.
I do like red dot sights and I have been shooting competitively with them since the late 90s. The new slide ride red dots took some getting use to, as everything I shot before was frame mounted.
I do like crimson trace laser grips with irons as it is much easier to find a good left handed holster for a gun in “factory configuration.” I do like the green laser beam vs red as it is easier for my eyes to pick up.
I suppose it is all trial and error once you have to start wearing prescription lenses. I tend to practice at self defense distances and for the moment I can still hit a man sized target in the vitals without optical assistance at 10 yards. Which is good enough for now.
