What is a good age to introduce Shooting Sports and Gun Appreciation to your children ?

I was babysitting my 2 and 5-year-old grandkids yesterday, them against me. We had an epic nerf gun war. Got home and required a two-hour nap.

I have no idea. The 5yr old has a collection that rivals my gun safe. The 2-year-old mainly just ran around pointing.

I think my son was 8 or 9. Skipped past the BB and .22 and went right for the .223. He's a good shooter, knows and respects the responsibility of firearms, and is a safe shooter and handler. He knows where to find the home defense weapons, and how to use them. I've not once felt uneasy leaving him home alone with access to loaded firearms. He knows that I'm willing to hand them to him whenever he wants, so there's no mystery. It is treated like a tool, just like a pair of scissors or a shovel.

My exact same situation. Started both kids at around 8. ar15 and handguns.
