What is the process of building your own handgun in NY?

I want to build a handgun from parts with a legitimate transferable frame(No 80%). Im not building an AR or AK type pistol, I'm building a 1911. I have a frame coming along with a slide, barrel and a few other parts. I know you can transfer a firearm frame but as soon as I build the pistol, it is now an unregistered handgun. So how do I legally register it? For those who do not know, FFL's without a manufacturing license cannot build long guns or handguns from receivers/frames. Any ideas?

When I made my AR pistol from a stripped lower, I just went down to the clerk with the serial # and other necessary details and added to my permit before I put the upper on it. I just took a picture of the lower with my phone, handed it to the clerk long enough for them to transcribe the details and they handed my phone back.

Other counties may be more complicated.

Pa, I'm not sure if we are comparing apples and oranges, but I have made muzzleloading flintlock pistols and because I have the components to load them I had to put them on my permit. I engraved my serial number on the barrel and went over to the county clerk and registered them. That was it.

Pistol frames are transferred as pistols. The process I go through in Jefferson county when doing this in the past is easy. Put the frame on your license, tell them the caliber and the length of barrel at the time you put it onthe license then build it. 100% frames need to be transferred as pistols so the green slip can be given back to the dealer.

when I do an 80% gun I get the frame to the point where the slide is ready to be mated to it, then stamp a serial number on it and register it with the pistol office. Once it is on the license it is ready to be completed legally. No green slip is required because I am the manufacturer.

Ehh hasn’t stopped the flow of parts into the PRNY. Some websites like Defense Distributed have stopped shipping stuff but others are still sending 80% stuff in.
The gun talked about in this thread would not be effected by the unconstitutional efforts of the PRNY AG since it is a 100% frame from the factory.

Against the law for me. I do not have manufacturers license. Cannot transfer it to myself since I live in NY.
