I bought my Marlin way back when the round was introduced back near 20 years ago, I can't remember the last time I shot it!
Not that I would use it anymore than the HMR but would rather have the 17wsm.

I shot my friend's 17 HRM and wanted one but the price was outrageous. Ended up with the 17 WSM and love it.

Think I paid 250 for the Marlin gun and put a 130 dollar Boyd's stock on it, 50 dollar scope mount and a 150 dollar Nikon scope. I would say thats pretty cheap.

I've bought and sold dozens of guns through the years and most had a purpose more or less. Some made more sense than others. Some I bought with "intentional use" but never used them for said use. But there was a plan. And then there was the .357 Magnum derringer . . . what a great idea! I could slip it in my pocket or top of my boot. And did I mention it was a .357 . . . Magnum? Yeah. As I recall it was right under a pound if stainless steel, nice and light . . . first clue. And it had a fairly stout trigger pull so it would be safe from an AD . . . second clue. AND it had a nice big hammer spur for cocking . . . third clue. And that short grip should make it easy to conceal. Ummm . . . yeah . . . And those pretty smooth rosewood grips . . .
Okay so I had a pound of major caliber, stainless steel in my pocket with a short, slippery grip, lousy trigger and a huge hammer spur. Try as I may, I barely could get a decent grip to get it out of my pocket when I wasn't fighting with the hammer catching on the pocket. The trigger was so bad that at 7 yards I could barely hit a B-29 target let alone center mass, and firing standard .38 felt like the night someone swung on me with the back of a pool cue and I caught the bottom tip in the center of my hand. .357 damn near took it out of my hand and felt twice as bad. Cocking the hammer for the second shot took way too long .
Yeah that's why for years I have carried a Smith and Wesson hammerless J Frame as a pocket/boot/BUG. Five shots, trigger tuned, smooth and snag free, with checkered grips and bright orange front sight. I can get all 5 off in less time and a center mass, size of my palm group.
Derringer = useless. As much use as an ex-wife . . .

Bought a lot of lousy holsters in my day. It was true when I was warned that most holsters will wind up in boxes under your bed (I now have two). I wasn't impressed with the Accu-Strut for the Mini-14 either.

Was GREAT before:
-Ruger speed loader (chuck a mag in, shake and get 10 bullets in a jiffy)
-Fake silencer barrel extension (laugh if you want, but it made my G22 look cool lol)
-Foregrip with extending bipod (for my semi auto rifle)

I’ve got a CZ 452 in 17hmr. I loved that gun..when I was shooting it. I can’t remember the last time that I took it to the range. I’ve got plenty of ammo too

His was a Ruger that (at the time I shot it) was selling for close to $3k. I ended up with a Savage Arms B-Mag with the bull barrel, and also put a Boyd's stock on it.
