What should I get?

I would buy one today if I could find one. I’d take a .40 also. They only make them in 9mm now so those are impossible to find. Buds had them in .40 a month or so ago but they sold out before I could get one.

I know, my nephew was able to find one last year, and that was an all out effort! I absolutely love the SIG 229, the Legion just added all the work you would've done to it anyways. You can get the 9mm and just get the .357 slide/barrel kit, swap it out, no? I know in the beginning supposedly the 9mm Legion was a lighter frame and not rated for the .357 or .40 slides. Not sure if that's still true.

If 1911 frame is what you're looking for @Airborneguy , and it's a "special treat" ... I say fuck it! Go for the Gold!!!

The Wilson Combat's are a dream, or even an Ed Brown Custom!!! Quality of hand fit, custom configuration, any way you want it! Not commercial store bought stuff

Even a 9mm is about impossible to find. I might buy one if I saw one but I wouldn't change caliber. I don't like to mess with that stuff with guns I would carry. Even though I'm sure it's fine you never know if they use slightly different springs or other parts. I just don't like to mess with it.

Since you have all the basics covered get a more unusual less common caliber. With the current ammo situation you can at least keep stocking up.


I say .357sig or 10mm. Or something weirder like .45GAP

10mm 1911 is like tip of the spear. Only unicorn above that for me is the FBI 1006 to match the 5946 that I carried for 14 years before I switched to the Glock 19.

I think that you meant the S&W 1076 FBI 10mm . They’re still out there , but getting harder and harder to find at a decent price point.

I've been thinking about a 229, but in their cherrywood / alloy finish. Looks gorgeous. I want to see if I can fire one first before I commit, so I can feel the double action on the first round to see if I hate it or not. Maybe when I'm down in Texas next time.

Part of me wants to get a .357 SIG someday - live out my US Secret Service fantasy (though they are changing to 9mm Glocks now). I think Federal Air Marshals still use .357 also? I am not a fan of DA/SA guns though - my first pistol was a Beretta PX4 Storm and I just could not get used to that trigger, at least as a "first gun". There are some SAO guns though..

I was thinking about getting one. I wouldn’t carry it but it’s neat to have for $200. Not every gun you buy has to be worthy of carry. It’s ok to have fun shit too.
