What to build ? (AR Lowers)

No problem. Build a dedicated .22 rim fire. Now you won’t have to start reloading a new caliber! Go with a CMMG conversion kit and barrel. Buy the better mag adapter to use S&W .22 magazines.

If I didn't already have more .22 rimfire rifles than I know what to do with, I would probably build one of the lowers into a nice .22 rimfire.

I'm still hot on the .17 Win Super Mag. If I can find a barrel and a bolt to match, one of the lowers is definately getting that treatment.

I know people (and companies at one point) have loaded the 6.8 with 85gr all the way up to 140gr. There's definitely published load data out from 85 to 120 and the 85's will top 3000fps. Bison Armory sold 200gr Woodleighs for subs at one point. It's not 308 but there's plenty of bullets to play around with. Biggest issue is that you almost have to play with it due to Big Green botching the SAAMI specs. 90% of the factory stuff is anemic due to the SAAMI spec being derated for an obsolete chamber design.

Huh, looks like Federal even loaded some 75gr frangibles too. Didn't even know those existed until just now.

I love my 6.8. It has enough energy for my Cavity Back Bullets to perform out to 500 yards. And it loves barrels from 12-18”, as well as a much stronger bolt design than the Grendel.
I love It so much, I built a Savage 110 bolt gun as well.

Love my 6.8! I took the biggest racked deer in my lifetime of hunting, at 188-200 yards with one of my hand loads, one shot and down right there. Excellent cartridge with a ton of options for the reloader.
When I bought it, it was my re-entry into AR's, I studied out the options pretty thoroughly, including the Grendel, 6.8 II was and I believe still is the best all around cartridge for that AR configuration. Now the AR 10, well.................
