So I have started a deer "pistol" build and originally I planned on doing it in .458socom cause who wouldnt want to thump out up to 500grains from an AR-15 and the limited reading I've done in the past leads me to believe the .458s does well in short barrels and there is no real velocity difference between say a 16" or a 10" (real no chance between 18 & 16 but we are trying to talk about shorter)
Well I am now leaning towards the. 450 bushmaster. Few reasons
1) ammo cost.. .450 looks to be about half the cost of the 458
2) ammo availability, seems like .450 is taking off and can be on the shelf.
Now I cant seem to find much ballistics info on the bushmaster from a 12" barrel but I want to take deer as fast an ethically as possible.
Good news is I already have the barrels and bolt picked out and same price it really just comes down to is the .450 Bushmaster up to the task of a 12" barrel or should I cough up the extra money on socom ammo
