What will subsonic .22 ammo go through?

For today’s question of “Will 22 subsonic ammo go through this?” take a look at the below pic?



First, it’s not easy drinking 2 gallons of milk just to go shooting.

Second, I had to carry this to my shooting spot. They started to get heavy after a while. I got in a workout and did some curls while I was out.

Here are your choices:
A) Yes, it will go through without a problem.
B) No, it may go through the first, but not the second.
C) The testing was inconclusive and you should have drunk more milk.

I shot towards the bottom half so the round would have the most water to go through.

What do you think?

At what range? 10 yards or more, No, don't think it will make thru even one. The pressure may blow out the back of the first jug but I think the bullet will be laying in the bottom.

vit D is good for you .. get used to it ,, drink more and get out in the sun lol .. i drink 2 to 3 gals a week ... got a good supply of milk jugs here lol ..

Bullets do funny things in water. I was about 10 feet back and the round hit the jug about 3 inches from the bottom and it proceeded to nosedive. It blew out the back of the first jug and entered the second about a half inch from the bottom. It hit the bottom of the second jug and scratched it. Because it was resting on a stump, I wonder if that impeded it’s progress. I’d like to try again next week.

I wanted to revisit my water test this weekend, but life got in the way. So, I did the next best thing—I did it today.

My main experiment was penetration of 1 gallon jugs. I used different ammo than last time.

The first load was CCI 40 grain segmented at 710 fps. Pretty mild round if you ask me.

The second load was Aguila Sniper 60 grain.

QUESTION:
1) Did the CCI go through or stop in 1 gallon?
2) Did the Aguila go through 2 or stop in the second? (The Aguila is loud without hearing protection and unsuppressed by the way.)

I’ll answer the 2nd question. The Aguila 60 grain smashed—and I mean smashed—through 2 gallons. It may be subsonic, but it packs a punch. 2 gallons? No problem.

What is your guess on the CCI Quiet 710 fps segmented round? Through 1 or does it stop?

Here’s the amazing thing about the CCI Quiet segmented hollow point at 710 fps—it passed through the 1 gallon jug no problem. Not only that, but it segmented beautifully and all 3 pieces exited the milk jug.

We tout the efficacy of 9 and 45, but the lowly 22 keeps doing it thing. We relegate these anemic rounds to kids’ gun or cheap plinkers, but they should not minimized. I’d take CCI 22 Shorts and subsonic rounds any day over throwing rocks.




The whole back of the jug is perforated. No jackets or lead remained inside.

I've been playing around with different sub sonic loads for various rifle calibers. I might have to get my dead @$$ motivated asd test penetration on these loads. So far using a fairly standard load for .223 subsonic. CCI small rifle primer, 55g FMJ pill pushed by 2.9g Titegroup. Holds well at 100 yards, with just about an inch of holdover vs my normal ammo. I use the CCI quiet 22 also for the pests in yard and the .223 for the ones that stay in at the edge of the treeline thinking they are safe.
