Whats the deal with blocking a mag?

You agree, but If you're concerned about DA interpretation, then that idea you have might come to bite you. If you had one of those extensions, you have the ability to convert that 10 round magazine into a high capacity ammunition feeding device now. Why will they never see the extensions if the DA says that component can be used to, in their opinion, "readily" convert the magazine into a high capacity one? I like the idea, but again it holds no further guarantee. The difference you have is you'll gladly be sold a 10/30 magazine or rifle with one without question in NY, but they're not going to sell you the 18 round extension with your purchase and probably not separately either.

If you went by the letter of the law, the mere existence of those extensions in the marketplace makes all magazines "readily restorable to 10+ rounds".

I know what you mean. Regular magazines can be converted so they all should be considered illegal and you are right for the sake of argument but that's where it ends. Why? Because then even a 1 round magazine would be illegal. They aren't going to go that route. It would be stupid of them to because it can or may open up a can that they don't want opened and spill the contents on the floor.

Now as far as converting a regular 15 rd magazine to 10 goes, there is more risk in that than getting bagged for legal 10 rounder out in public. I think we can agree that if a cop for whatever reason whether it be being nosy at the range or a temporary confiscation in a self defense shooting see's a 10 round Glock mag with 10 round count holes in the back he'll leave you alone compared to a 15 rd one with a block installed. The 15 rd one creates reasonable suspicion if he sees it and wants to act on it for whatever reason.

For the sake of argument on a forum and from a sense of logic, you are correct. However in the real world, logic doesn't apply and you face more risk of defending yourself for it. That's my point and that's the reason I don't play the fixed mag rifle route or the not a rifle or a pistol but a firearm game or the 10/30 on a regular magazine body route. I can't afford to defend it.

It's much safer for me to have items known to be legal out in public and have whatever I want buried in a hole somewhere outside of my house and outside of my immediate possession.

I brought up the extensions as a safer and easier alternative for those who want that capability for a just in case or if going out of state and they don't feel like drilling out rivets or heating up epoxy to convert without melting the plastic.
