Hahahahahahahah, well, there is no question that you shoot one heck of a lot more than I do, but I do believe that those old springs were made to a different standard than is considered acceptable today, or even thirty or so years ago. Not just springs either.

No. i switched to glock. Solved all my problems. Holds 23+1. No maintenance at all. I dont even clean it! ( i make my friend clean it ONCE PER YEAR! No shit!). I have never change a spring. Any spring!
When/if it ever stops running i wll sell it and buy a new one!

Just ordered new recoil springs for my Baby Eagle. One had a kink in it. Not sure how it happened, but replacing them both as a set. Also ordered a new magazine while I was there.

I keep different springs for designated uses.
One for defense use that spring gets a break in and isn't used for anything else which should last a lifetime. Then the fun and gun spring which if it does fail no big deal, I'm not shooting for money.
As stated above nothing wrong with following manufacturers recondmendation. In the grand scheme of things changing a spring early is nothing compared to the money spent on ammo.
The irony, same guys who refuse to change a spring, will smoke a pack a day, drink a 6 pack on sunday or pound $20 away a week in coffee. But shelling out $12 for a spring once a year is unthinkable. Kind of silly.

In a nod to the customer service at Magnum Research, the representative I spoke to when I ordered the magazine mentioned above called me today to let me know that the ones he showed in inventory are defective and new ones are ordered. He wanted to know if I wanted to wait and he would ship me one when they come in, or just bill the recoil springs and skip the mag. I will wait. Sometime in nearly a month I will get the mag, and thankfully I have some spares so it isn't too big a deal.
