Who does bluing?

Hey everyone. Just like the title says im curious who everyone is using for bluing. No bubbas. I need a few guns brought back to their glory. A 586 smith and a ithaca deer slayer. Im looking to have it done right. It doesnt need to be a factory finish as far as shade etc but i want it to look good and last. Im in the albany area. Any recomendations? Anyone you know? Uncle, brother, couson, aunt, sister yourself possibly? Thank you all in advance!

I used this place and was blown away by how far above and beyond they went. It’s $250 per lot and you maybe able to get both done for that price. The communication was great, turn around was about one week, finish is great and has held up well. I took two pistols apart and sent them off. I labeled everything part in sandwich bags and took pictures for my own reference. They returned all parts in each bag labeled. 2-3 were mixed up, but the fact that they kept track and attempted blew me away.

I used Brownell's oxpho-blue with good results to bring back close to new a few Mosin-Nagants. It negatively effects the value as collectibles, but looks so nice. There is a learning curve and some talent is needed, but overall it looks more real than total re-bluing.

Have used George Roghaar with great results. Personable guy too. Prices were fair. According to his website he's booked for another couple months.

I can send you pictures tomorrow but they have matte, semi and gloss, I think. I did the matte and it looks great.

For his work look at the what I got thread it will make you drool.

I’ve used the ortho blue and it’s ok. I got it blended to look great just not sure how will it will hold up if you’re doing heavy use stuff like carrying or hunting.

I was going by memory. Out of several cold blue solutions I tried, that one worked the best. Several layers and use of 000 steel wool makes the touch ups unnoticeable.

Pretty nice. Im not going to redo it and put it in storage or anything. I just dont want it looking like crap after. Retaining the original sw look is pretty difficult from what i gathered. Not cheap as in how not cheap? Haha..

@thebumfuzzler I suggested S&W because a friend of mine sent a 22 revolver in to have a timing issue fixed (on a 2nd hand gun, they fixed that for free!) and he had them re-blue it also and he said it was reasonable $$.

The guy i talked too there was kind of a dick and told me they arent taking any new orders on and dont know when they will be.. haha worth a shot though..
