Anyone who has been married.
Me and a few friends actually talked about doing this a few years ago. It wouldn't have been a "Let's go survive" trip, but it would have been a, "Everyone bring something, whether it's an object or demonstration, on something survival related." I'm definitely interested in something like this with this group of people.
Something fun would be a nygf survival training weekend. It would be really hard for me to get the time away from the kids now, but when they are a bit older i could.
Fun on a challenging adventure with a group of total extrangers w/o control of who might show up? No thanks! Lol
I might have fun with a couple of trusted individuals but otherwise it could be a mess.
If someone needs to learn to survive the first thing is to learn it on his/her own on a reduced controlled chaos.
A lot of people dream of survival but what about start getting in shape?
I am not saying being an olympic athelete but the simple task of walking and endurance. I had this experience of going out with people only to find out they cannot walk even 10 miles.
Lots of gear and shit only to find out they are not ready for the most basic physical and mental demands.
I mean there is always value in knowing how to start a fire and procuring shelter and all those skills but if one doesn't have the discipline to prepair their bodies and minds for the test then it all becomes a futile attempt. Most people will soon complain and collapse to physical strain and exposure. The military survival training is a joke unless you end up in advanced training like special forces. The strain training is ok and something to keep in mind when gettting older and wiser to understand how to pace yourslef and how much weight you can carry wo killing yourself. What I could carry when I was 25 will certainly kill me today. So much useless stuff anyway. I have done that carry lots of shit but then learned from true mountain people how to travel lean and be resourceful.
Anyone serious about survival need time and discipline to stay fit. It can be 4-6 miles walk daily with some other exersise and strexhing. The gym will help but cannot compare to walking in the woods uphill, downhill, rain, rocks and mud.
My best friend is a hunting guide. He demands physical preparation along with accuracy and tracking skills. He tells me how many times they had to cut the hunts short because people cannot take the physical and mental demands.
Some think of outdoors like some sort of tailored catering experience wo realizing we need to be ready for whatever.
Exposure, heat, cold, exhaustion, mental strength... those are things we can practice any time anywhere.
This does not exclude the other and study of methods but just to make sure everyone knows what it really takes to survive and even thrive where others might perish.

agreed, it could be something like a camping trip+. a camping weekend where you don't bring a tent, but build shelters. during the day you can practice building traps, starting fire without modern tools, trying some land navigation techniques. I have a great area of private property that we could do this, and by knowing all the land its a good fail safe in case of emergency. but again, if i could actually get a weekend away, it would be for a advanced firearms training class right now. a class like this id like to do in a few more years.I would never go on a full out challenging adventure with a group of total strangers. I like you guys, but I don't like you that much! I'd be down for something like I mentioned before.
We all get softer but also wiser. Wisdom and experience is also a top survival skill. That is why they only send young peopleYour post just reminded how soft I've gotten!
