Why are we registered Republicans?

As the title states, why? Why not change to the Democratic party so that we can vote in their primaries? We can really fuck them up that way. Our vote would actually count twice rather than once or not at all?

What if the majority of Republicans in this state did that and voted for Nixon in the primaries for example and then voted for the republican in the general election?

Masterswimmer is doing that. Why not us?

Unfortunately in this state there is no other way to beat the cesspool vote in the city. We just need to get more like minded repubs on board with this strategy. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the dems are doing the reverse. So our attempt would just be negating their attempt.

Your party affiliation must be changed no less than 30 days before a primary election to vote in that party's primary.....in case anyone is interested

i am registered as a democrat and will vote for her in primary, i registered when i was young and didnt know any better but now use it to vote against cuomo and the dems any chance i can

I did that years ago. As a bonus, I got to vote against Hildabeast twice last time (primary+election).

I swapped registration this Summer for exactly the reasons stated above.

When I moved here a year ago I registered Dem for this very reason. You're primaries are notorious for having very long periods before elections that you need to be registered, so yes will be voting for Nixon.

My hope is that at the very least it gives her false hope and that she runs third party, splitting the Dem vote

I'm registered Republican (was independent for a long time). You make a very valid point, Willjr75 and it's something I think more of us should consider doing. It's too late for me to change party registrations this go around but I'm thinking about doing it for next year. The only bad thing I can see happening is that if more people switch registrations then both the state and national GOP will just write off NY and not finance good candidates that suit out needs. Then again, they're pretty much doing that now so I suppose it doesn't matter.

Speak for yourself, I'm a registered D, although I am a #WalkAway I'm not going to change my registration until my vote matters. Bit torn about the gov primary. Cuomo sucks donkey dick, so by default the vote would be for her given that she's going to lose, except if she actually won she'd be infinitely worse and I could never forgive myself. Nobody else on the ballot.

Honestly reading this forum you'd think NY was the worst state in the country for gun owners. It's terrible, but sometimes I think ya'll have no idea how bad it could get. NJ, IL, CA, all much worse in a lot of respects. And there are restrictions in more supposedly gun-friendly states that we don't have. Cuomo has made it worse and would make it worse yet if he had his way, but he's more beholden to the GOP than Nixon. Cuomo is at least going to pretend to care about law-abiding gun owners (WE know better) and owes favors to legitimately pro-gun lawmakers, but Nixon would ban all guns for everyone if that cunt had her way.

Here's just a few horrors that we could see elsewhere that we don't have now:
- Permit to buy long guns and ammo
- Waiting periods for all guns
- Restrictions on number of guns bought
- Registration of long guns
- State-level background checks and transfer fees
- Storage laws
- Ammo kept under lock and key with restrictions on purchase
- State laws against manufacturing long guns
- A HUGE one: RED FLAG laws. Hasn't happened here, yet! Of course you could say this one is a wash since Cuomo has been pushing this, but you know Nixon wants worse, and she doesn't have the baggage that Cuomo has with our senate leadership. Any scenario where is a leftist kook like Cynthia gets elected is bad news on all of these fronts. Cuomo cares more about virtue-signalling than actually passing laws. Which is why the "SAFE" act is so stupid, but which is also why it failed e.g. where we dodged a bullet on ammo when it didn't follow through.

All of these could happen if one election went the wrong way!

I don't think she can be worse. We are at that point already. These storage laws and other gun laws would be signed by Cuomo if the assembly passed them. To think that Cuomo would veto them is crazy.

Can she be worse. Not by much to make a difference. But seeing his dreams shattered would be worth it when in the grand scheme of things, nothing is going to change. In fact, the worse it gets, the better.

IMO, if Nixon were to be elected Governor and what a big if that is, Albany politics would grind to a halt. The NY Deep State would come out in force. NY would be spinning its wheels for the next 4 years and fall farther behind the rest of the country. Upstate hasn’t recovered from the 1980’s market crash.
