Why can’t I hit anything with a pistol but I can a revolver..?

Honestly, I’m a bad shot with pistols, like I can’t aim for shit! But revolvers on the other hand!? I’m great! Like really good. I don’t know why this is... what’s so different between a pistol and a revolver really? I don’t see them being to different. But yeah it’s annoying because I can’t aim with my favorite pistol.
I’m a lefty and a righty with rifles, I prefer left but with some guns I have to go right. I feel like I have a bad grip on pistols.

If you are having issues shooting it's one of these fundamentals:

• Steady position
• Aiming
• Breath control
• Trigger squeeze

I’m still always on paper and 90% of the time in the black with my Springfield, but my 1911 I’m rarely more than a ring or two away from bullseye. My Springfield is 9mm and the 1911 is a 3.5” 45 sonits not barrel length.

I’d be lucky to hit the paper from 5 yards away lmao. But I was able to bullseye from 25 with the revolvers. I’d like to go farther back

Yup, it means you’re using your booger hook correctly.
Try a firmer grip on the pistol. You are probably holding it with a slight limp wrist.Also practice dry firing for muscle memory and trigger control.

I didn't notice what pistol you were having issues with. You may not have posted that info. The trigger pull is a good possibility, but it could be the sight radius also. It can make a big difference. I notice it going from my PPQ to shooting my Shield, and even shooting my wife's CCP. If you are shooting a 4" or 6" revolver then shoot a subcompact, the difference in sight radius will make a big difference in how accurate you can shoot it. His is especially true at distances beyond 10 to 15 yards.

Hello Dayten - just curious what caliber revolver you have. I find I am less accurate with my ruger .357 revolver in double action than I am with my glock 19 or Colt 1911. My accuracy improves when I use single action. I am a bit envious of you ability with the revolver.

@Dayten all kidding aside, I think Phazer nailed it. It will just take diligence during your practice to be sure of your finger placement/control through the whole process.

I shoot revolver better too. For me I bare down when shooting pistol so many shots are left and low. I shoot pistol ok but if I want to get better I would need to do a lot of dryfire practice. The good shooters I know do dryfire practice often.

I shoot revolvers very well, and the fundamentals are the same. What is different is the action on a semi-auto pistol. I'd take a guess to say your follow thru on shots sucks... All else being equal if course. Of course just a guess. Lol
