I'm a SHTF kinda guy.
The AR covers a lot of items on the checklist.
Its a good, reliable rifle. Easy enough for most people to use, manageable recoil, modular for individual tastes / needs , Accurate, good range , parts are interchangeable between different brands ( for the most part, no custom machining needed to make it work). Commonly available ammo, commonly available magazines, good ammo capacity ( in a Free State or WROL situation).
In a SHTF situation, will 6.8 Creedmore or .204 Ruger be available?
5.56 will be.
Its a defensive gun, hunting gun, offensive gun, target gun, Mom can shoot it, the kids can shoot it.
Bolt action & pump action guns are more involved. In a high stress situation, some people can become overwhelmed and not cycle the action.
Hunting rifles and most shotguns hold 5ish rounds and take longer to reload.
With a semi auto, flip the safety & pull the trigger. When it stops , drop the mag, pop in a new one and resume firing.
Its not a rifle that fill all criteria , but for the average person for most situations, its a good survival firearm choice.
