In New York, there’s no such thing as a “temporary tax,” and Gov. Andrew Cuomo may be about to prove that rule yet again by pushing to renew levies on wealthy taxpayers.
That would not only deal the state’s economy another blow, it would also go against Cuomo’s own past statements about how much damage New York taxes do.
“The question is, how much money do you need — and then you raise taxes to that level,” Cuomo said last week, opening the door to the idea of again renewing the “millionaire’s tax” before it expires, as scheduled, next year.
Yet who’s to say how much money is needed, and what if trying to raise that much sends taxpayers fleeing?
Will Gov. Cuomo hike taxes yet again?
