Anyone stationed at Ft. Sill Ok. knows about range fires, unbelievable how fast one can start and spread. My unit lost a lot of equipment in one fire that started close by (cigarettes'?) we had to do an emergency displacement and didn't even move our camo nets before driving thru them. Generators camo nets even gunpowder was left to burn. All along the OK turnpike are signs "DO NOT DRIVE INTO SMOKE" yet someone always does and many time dies.We have switch grass here in NY state planted by the Dec for cover crops. I have had a controlled burn with 20 acres before and it took only 10 minutes for the entire field to burn .. On the prairie a fire of these types of grasses (warm season ) A person cannot outrun the fire .(at times )
