Im pretty sure that's a coyote in the top picture.
That's a coyote. In the first picture, you can clearly see it's snout. The tail is held sweeping down and straight out away from the body, slightly curved. Typical of an eastern coyote. The colors are typical of coyote as well. The dark spot below and in front of it's eye is something in it's mouth, maybe a squirrel. It could just be that it's face is much darker than the rest of it's head. The second picture confirms that it's a coyote in my opinion.
If the white around the mouth and throat wasn't prominent, the snout would appear much darker than the rest of his face. I think the darkness of the snout in your picture makes it look like it is part of the brush behind it, but it's the snout or something being carried.
