CASHION, Oklahoma — Instead of signing a ticket for a broken tail light that would have cost her $80, an Oklahoma woman is now facing serious charges including assault on a police officer.

Police body cam video obtained by KOCO in Oklahoma City showed Debra Hamil’s interaction with the officer that pulled her over.

and listen to her story .. shes a old lady .. maybe she has no $$$ to take in to a shop to fix .. or other family issues dealing with

then maybe he could have been the good guy .. auto parts is just down the road go there and will fix this for you ..

from a quick search .. signing the ticket is only admitting to the ticket and will show up for court date ..
if you don't sign you still got the ticket and if you don't show up ..
then your licenses could be gone or a warrant .. a whole different ball game now ..

I was under the impression that signing the ticket is acknowledging that you will show up for the court date if you are allowed to go free.

If you don't sign, they will arrange room and board for you until the court date and transportation to the court and make sure you arrive on time.

Along with storing your vehicle for you....

That is a ridiculous process for a traffic ticket. For goodness sake they even freaking have cameras taking pictures of you and just mailing them to you.

I'm not saying that the cop is wrong if he followed procedures, but the procedures are the problem. Not to mention a little discretion.
