@holdover, do you have an armorers wrench?
If not, get one. Also helpful is a breaker bar. Changing barrels on an ar is not complicated.

Yeah I do actually. I just didn't want to fuck it up and have the thing blow up on me . Looks bad in the obits.

Barrel change is pretty simple. Just need to clamp/hold upper properly so it doesn’t get damaged.

Grab a 30-150 foot pound torque wrench.

The rifle won't blow up on you. If it did, it would be either the ammo or the barrel's fault. The barrel nut is just something that holds the barrel to the upper. Honestly, for it to come loose it would have to defeat the gas tube (since the gas tube is timed between the cogs of the barrel nut) and in the case of a proprietary barrel nut, those usually fit a hand guard and while it may come loose, it won't explode on you. You'll notice a drastic drop in accuracy well before that happens.

Get one of these also, so when torquieng you don't put unneeded stress on the upper. Much cheaper than Geissele, and works just as well.

100%. I have one and use it ALL the time when working on uppers. Handguard, adding accessories, cleaning etc. Love this tool.
