Finally got to see this so called War Relic, I had only seen cell phone photos before hand. Photos looked good but it was hard to make out any details. Yes, it looked like a P 38, yes, there was a Nazi eagle on one of the grips. Over the weekend the owner showed me this "rare" find. We had been working on a price line to see if a 2 hour drive would be worth my time.
I'm handed this "gun", first thing I notice is there aren't any serial numbers any where on this thing! I clear it, check the chamber and find the barrel to be blocked. I field strip it, yup there is a piece or two missing.
Get the barrel separated, I can't find any riffling. Magazine follower seems smaller than a 9 mm.
Time to check the internet.
The slide is marked- P. 38 mgc above 67. Winds up being a Japanese replica, maybe a 8 mm blank firing?

My friend had a "1911" for years that a few gun stores were fooled by. Finally he took it to our department's armorer who laughed in like 4 seconds. It was also one of those Japanese replicas. The armorer said that while it may fire blanks, it probably wasn't safe to do so.

She was shocked! "After all these years of worrying about having a stupid gun in the house, it's fucking fake!" Of course she was expecting it to be a big ticket item, having looked briefly on the web for it's value. Guess she was hoping for a grand or so. She wound up giving it to me.
Seems it's from the 1960's. Appears to be fairly well made. It's not working correctly as far as cycling, and the hammer doesn't seem to cock. I'm having my dough's it fires blanks.
It could very easily pass as a real gun, enough if you were stupid with it you'd go to the morgue!

It's a Model Gun Corp Lange Model 08 Luger replica 8mm blank firing replica. You can probably get $200 bucks or so for it if you push hard on the sale and get it fully working.

Nope, it's a "P-38" not a Luger 08. I'd be lucky to get $25 for it.

The giant eagle and swastika. Those are reproduction / fantasy grips. Original P-38's grips don't have any nazi marks on them.

It looks really good for a replica. I bet it would bring closer to $100 with a reenactor.

Can't find any info on the mgc 67 that's helpful. This thing breaks down very similar to a real P38. But since it's a replica there are a number of differences. If it's cocked, I can get it to "fire" a single time.
Need a parts diagram....
