How many yards are your setup for hunting with a handgun with iron sights.I,m going to start shooting at 25-35 for hunting.Will be the same as my ground blind set-up.Much farther than that is tough with iron sights.Will be using my glock 10mm.What is your yardage and gun ?

I have been handgun hunting for over 30 years and will shoot deer out to 50 yards with my Ruger Super Blackhawk in .44 mag.Howerer, Most All of the deer that I have taken with it have been inside of 35 yards.

Years ago I would have no problem taking a deer with a SBH in .44mag out to 100yds as long as it was standing still. BUT that was when my eyes where sharp and my hands steady, now a days I wouldn't go past 50 yds. I do have a couple of scoped hand guns and can still reach out to 250-300 with a TC contender AND a solid rest (those damn unsteady hands again!) With that said most all my deer have also been fairly close, from point blank (straight down from a 10'stand) to about 40 yards. The longest shots I've ever had at deer where measured of at 280 yds and 300 both with my Contender, I wonder sometime why I have rifles.
I tried to convince a coworker to pick up a contender (he has his pistol license) because he hunts in the shotgun/pistol only areas and for some reason refuses to hunt with a shotgun so he continues to use a bow into rifle season then be sad about not getting a deer..

I got my Contender (.35 Rem) years ago when the Southern zone was all shotgun, I had a stand set up overlooking a 600yd wide field and about 450 deep and the woods behind me was 100yards deep and a natural funnel. Unfortunately the land was sold and I was no longer welcome, sucked hunted there for 30years.

Same here,Blackhawk .44 with 7 1/2 in bbl.I used to have a scope on it,but went back to iron sights to cut down on the weight.No more than 50 yds with iron sights.I dont know if the Glock is gonna do it out that far.

HA! If I see the deer coming and watch for more than a few seconds I'm done for, on the other hand if I jump a deer I can (well used to) draw and fire and make a good hit even out at 100 yards, but I'm older and slower

Put a 6-8 inch plate out at 50. If you can hit it 100% of the time then that could be your new range. (It is very easy with practice. I do it standing, offhand with my glock )
