I am also amazed that suddenly, the rule of law is in vogue again. Obama didn't give to shits about the "rule of law" and all the media did was tweet his hope and change messages without question.

Yes, the left "misunderstands" this. Anyone on US soil (which really doesn't include in the Airport detained before completing customs) is allowed protection under the bill of rights. So, for example, if someone is here (legally or illegally) and is accused of murder they can take the 5th and are entitled to due process and the right of a jury of their peers. As you stated, someone here illegally can be DEPORTED subject to due process rights (and there are immigration courts just for this purpose).

Someone who is not a US citizen and not on US soil has NO constitutional right to enter the United States.
