I spend 1-2 hours/week shooting the breeze with a black guy at work, on various topics. He hates trump, is definitely democrat, but he also just applied for a pistol permit. One of his best friends (also black) has one as well and that friend's wife is applying for one as well. Work buddy specifically called out the limit on ARs as something he doesn't support.

I've not checked but although blacks are overwhelmingly democrat, my guess is there view on gun control is cooler than one might think. Since all people tend toward their own peer groups (which includes race of course), guys like Colin Noir for the NRA are a good idea to help drive a bit of a wedge into the democratic machine. A democratic party position pushing for massive curtailment of gun rights won't engender itself to every registered democrat. In fact, in my small department at work of around 10-12 people, two are black, both gun owners.

Socially, blacks are fairly conservative. But because of the shifty tricks of the LBJ Administration with the passage of the Civil Rights Act, and more recently the Democratic pandering, they tend to vote Democrat.

The best thing the NRA has done in a VERY long while is put Colion Noir on the payroll as one their spokesmen. That and having Dana Loesche be its female face at least helps to show the public that not every gun owner is a fat old white man. In fact, the fastest growing number of gun owners are women and minorities. Every little bit helps in the PR department. If only we could get folks like your coworkers to vote for gun rights.

Steven Crowder and Colion Noir, among pro-2a activists, have pointed out that the push to ban/regulate "assault" style weapons really isn't just focused on black, scary rifles, but rather banning firearms outright. And the more propaganda I see getting pushed by anti-gun organizations, the more I tend to agree with that assessment.

So here we have an online media group (which really just posts links to other peoples' articles so calling them a legit new agency might be a stretch) telling us that we don't need handguns. And yet the political agenda pushed by many others has been that we don't need semi-auto "assault" rifles because, as Joe Biden famously said, you just as easily defend yourself with a shotgun or pistol. So when if/when they finally regulate scary semi-auto rifles out of existence (which NY is already trying hard to do), what will be their next move? If they were truly focused on firearm violence, the statistics suggest they should be focusing on handguns, not rifles, as the former leads to far more gun homicides than the latter.

First the message is that: we should just ban scary military-style rifles. But how long will it be until the message changes to: let's ban all firearms that criminals use in crimes (in which handguns are largely the weapon of choice). I really wish the gun control proponents would be honest about what it is they're really trying to do. They need to stop pretending that they're only interested in banning the "bad" weapons, because if you follow their line of logic its quite obvious they'd prefer that all weapons are banned.

Also, no one is arguing there is no inherent risk in owning a firearm. When you own a firearm, your chances of shooting yourself go up exponentially as compared to if you didn't own one. Similarly, your chances of drowning in your backyard also go up exponentially if you install a pool....we're just stating the obvious here. Your chance of getting into a car accident increase exponentially if you're driving on the highway as compared to sitting in your living room. There is always risk associated with our actions....we just need to be aware of said risk and take the necessary steps to mitigate it.
