A bunch of people thanking the President for visiting them in the hospital? What's the big deal about that? Why would anyone take offense at it?

I don't think is especially newsworthy, but maybe worth a passing mention in a report on whatever it was Trump was doing that day.

It's newsworthy because it was a positive reaction from an area that was totally politicized from the protestors point of view castigating him and saying President Trump was not welcome there. You don't see the one sided reporting there? The protestors were all over the news while no reporting was done from the pro Trump camp.

What little accolades Trump gets has to come from cell phone videos or him patting himself on the back.

If Trump found a cure for cancer he'd be railroaded for putting thousands of healthcare workers and big pharma workers out of business.

So yes, it is a big deal.
