One could argue that they were in common use before the NFA was enacted. If they were not, what would have been the need for the NFA?

That is the irony of course, that the reason that NFA weapons are not in common use is because the NFA made that so but since the NFA weapons are not in common use they are not within the scope of the 2nd Amendment's protections.

Police and military use them all the time.

There is no qualifier that they be in common use by ordinary citizens.

Someone should just make a PDF for a lightning link that you just print out and glue to a piece of sheet metal and go after it with a Drexel.

Then spam it to every place you can think of.

I'd love to see the ATF try to argue that a digital file is a machine-gun LOL.

There are a little over half a million machineguns registered with the NFA. Seems pretty common to me.

Not sure I'd get a FA, even if the NFA was struck down and the prices dropped from the stratosphere.

Yea, if NFA really did go down, sure I'd spend $50 on parts and drill the third hole on one of my ARs just to play around some.

But it would have to be pretty infrequent due to the sheer cost.

If the government restricts them how can they be in common use? They were in the 1920 and 30’s so historically were all good.

I can see SBR’s and SBS’s being unrestricted along with maybe suppressors. I am unsure about machine guns as even before the NFA they were not that common simply due to cost. Guns like the Thompsons were extremely expensive brand new for what the average person then could afford.
