In a perfect world it wouldn't be a concern because we would have welcomed Russian cooperation and formed some sort of loose alliance with them. Russia should be our ally and should be aligned with us focused on countering china.
Imagine how much different the world could be right now if NATO let Russia play in the sandbox and we all got along and we were all aligned to keep China from trying to become dominant.
Oh well. Piss that down the toilet.
Russia wanted partnership and U.S. wanted domination. This misalignment is what deteriorated relations to the worst ever.
Initially Russians were so fascinated with the West, that they looked the other way when we broke our promises, back stabbed them, crapped on their history, and treated them unfairly. This went on for years, until they had enough.
