Also if this is a gun you will be carrying you should also consider the Holosun EPS, the full width one, not the narrow one meant for micro compacts. the EPS has a relatively large window but is also very low profile and it carries very well. the EPS is also representative of Holosun's latest electronics, with improvements to glass and dot clarity/fidelity and power draw. Its just about the perfect red dot for a carry gun IMO.
the plate I got for it, the DPP Titanium, has held up well despite costing significantly less than other brands. The biggest thing with the DPP product is that the screws they provide are the perfect length which unfortunately still not a given.

i do carry my Carry Comp on a regular basis and given I work nights I am glad to have the extra low light capabilities a weapon light and red dot provides me.
On the subject of weapon lights, I think the Streamlight TRL7 HL-X (NOT the HL-X Sub, which is for slim line guns) has the best light output for a light its size.

I have a 509t on one 2.0 Compact and an EPS on my A300 shotgun.. call me a Holosun Hore but I really like them. The new Primary Arms HTX1 enclosed dot has my attention, though it's twice as much as the Holosuns...

I did buy a Werkz holster that works for both Carry Comp and TLR7 HLX, but holding off on any other holsters at the moment until I know if I'm running a light on it for competition..

Fair enough, being limited to 10 rounds certainly has a strong influence on what you'll carry. I d probably only ever carry the Shield Plus in that situation myself. Nevertheless, see if that 507 just mounts directly on for you.

There are no recoil lugs on the M&P CORE slide, so I wouldn't feel comfortable running the optic without a plate, and I refuse to use the plastic tabs S&W includes.

I'm still trying to find out what size barrel to get to swap into the Compact Carry Comp; I e-mailed APEX to see what they'd recommend and haven't heard back. Maybe I'll contact S&W. I could swap slides with my regular Compact but then I lose the sweet slide serrations and cuts.

Why are you swapping barrels? The factory barrel has the port cut into it, swap that and most of the point of the Csrry Comp model is gone. I mean yeah, tge slide serrations are both pretty and useful but the factory integegral comp supposed to be the main draw. From the info I have looked up trying to determine holster compatibility it seems the Carry Comp barrel is it's own unique length. The rifled portion is apparently 3.8" so right in between the 3.6" and 4" Compact models. Tge overall barrel slide length is just shy of a fullsize. It would of made more sense if S&W took a full size barrel and ported that for 4" ballistics OR my preference would have been to take a 4" and port that for 3.6" ballistics and a slightly shorter overall length.
That said I saw two different videos in which a 4" compact and the Carry Comp were compared on a chronograph and tge velocities were close enough as to be within the normal velocity deviation from one shot the the next.
My Carry Comp has become my go to csrry gun. I'm carrying it right now in fact.
I expect I'll switch back to the Shield when the weather warms up but I will experiment with how well it would conceal tucked behind a shirt. Under a coat or vest or some kind of outer type garment the Comp conceals well enough but I am dubious as to using just tucking a button down shirt over it. Plus drawing from a tucked holster is clunky.

Competition. For USPSA (if I'm reading the rules right), I'd be stuck in "Open Division" if I used a compensator - same division as those "race guns". If I can swap the barrel to non-comp/ported I can use it in Carry Optics Division.

Yup. You would be scored open minor. You won't win your division but not the end of the world if you just look to better your own scores. If you're serious about competition swap the barrel but don't let that hold you back from competing. Just shoot what you got.

Okay, I get that but why even get a Carry Comp then? A standard M&P 2.0 is the same thing at that point. Now your slide port will be a faux port and that......... I can't stand fake ports, vents, ducts ect. I suppose the ports on the side of the nose serve no purpose either. Nor the speed hole on the top.

S&W has just released what I imagine to be their top factory race gun offering, the *takes deep breath* Smith & Wesson Military & Police Spec Series V Metal HD.......... that is just a silly long name!

It looks over the top racy sure but I would have a hard time justifying the $1,700 price.
I do appreciate they added some texture on the steel, yes steel on this one, portion of the grip. A skeletonized grip with attached grip panels would still be my strong preference however.
I'd never buy one but I'd like to shoot one.
