On the contrary, trump backed off a week ago after a call with the canadian PM. Canada has made it very clear they are not folding on tariffs. If you think differently you need to start reading news from canadian sources. Problem is a lot of people here are going to stick their head into the sand and not level the same criticism they brought to bear against Biden against one of their own. The "two wrongs make a right" mentality that got us down this road of an overpowered executive branch across nearly all administrations in my lifetime.

The trade deals we are making are a mistake. If there was a problem with previous polices or rates, fixing it like this is going to spark more of a panic than help. Especially when done suddenly.

There was a law passed in the 1910s that allowed the president to set tariffs independent of Congress. I agree executive overreach is a problem, but in the scope of tariffs it's been this way for over 100 years. We just never had a recent president so retarded about it.

Sounds like some are ok getting the shitty end of the deal. Who here would ok a deal that I get 100% and you get -25%?
If you think that's good, let the dealing begin!

Or the U.S.A. can go to war, cutting down the population, of course our NATO countries will run in to help, right after we give them the weapons. There is only a few ways to fix ~100 yrs. of government screw ups and it will hurt. We can kick the can down the road again and let the chi-nas worry about it when they take over. Perhaps islame will take control and no-one will need anything because you will be dead or a slave.
Take the punch like men and get this country back on track, only ~70 days in with the demonturds/rhinoturds doing every thing to keep the spice flowing.

Market is down 20% since he took office. We are heading into a global recession because trump enjoys having people bow down to him. This is about his ego. If Biden had crashed the market 20% due to ignoring something anybody who watched ferris bueller knows the right wing would be storming the white house with pitch forks. This is what he said yesterday:

This. Left unsaid in all the media coverage about tariffs is just how one sided they are. Our goods are taxed at outrageous levels while the tariffs to enter this country are very small. Trump simply wants everything to be equal, i.e. if our product to country x is taxed at 100% then their product to us is going to be taxed at 100%. Until the knuckleheads agree to lower the tariffs to a much more reasonable level.

If you look at the history of tariffs the US purposely lowered them after world war 2 to jump start the european economies devastated by the war and to bind them politically to us against the russians. The cold war ended in 1991 with the dissolution of the soviet union. Tariffs should have been addressed then. They were essentially on autopilot until trump came into office in 2016 and said this was completely unfair. He was correct and continues to be correct on this issue.

But it still won’t be “fair” or solve the trade deficit. Maybe the rates will be equal but people need to keep in mind and the context here. There is a trade imbalance at least in part because the American economy is the largest in the world and we import more than anyone else. When you look at our GDP per person and our wages along with our spending and debt it makes sense. I’m not saying tariffs and import rates shouldn’t be fair and equalized but we will still more than likely have a trade deficit.
Keep in mind estimates are 3% of chinas GDP is associated with trade to the USA. This will not shutdown or ruin China as much as people think. The impact will be greater than people think as a result of it only being 3% of their GDP but this will not bankrupt or cripple China. For perspective a recession is 2% GDP loss for two consecutive quarters so it will be impactful a severe recession is 5% GDP loss. Our GDP loss during Covid was between 11% and 5% for a while. They could survive this and I doubt this will stop all trade with China so what are we talking about 1.5-2% of their GDP possibly? Time will tell.
