I do not think it is wise to use the national guard to police a city. The democrats will do this but we will be their targets. Next you know they will be kicking down doors in NYS to confiscate guns from us that they recently banned. I’m all good using federal law enforcement to make a city safe and the national guard in support roles but not on the streets making arrests.

From what I have read 800 National Guard have been called up with additional troops waiting in the wings. Up to 200 at a time are actively patrolling on on the streets during evening hours with plans to expand presence throughout the daytime. The presence is not currently city-wide but focused in certain areas.
Another 500 agents from various Alphabet groups are also present. Not to mention the Metro PD, Park Police and others already present in DC.
I don't know, does that seem like a bit much to police the streets and enforce a juvenile curfew? Could this be something bigger than just addressing street crime?
Some of the speculation I've heard is a massive overhaul of the MPD, in which case the additional resources are to span a gap. Or, more protests are expected, perhaps in response to the outcome of today's Alaska summit with Putin.
I also read that there is a local DC ordinance that they've pulled out banning unlawful protests or blocking access to streets, parks, or buildings.
12 hours after Trump made the order, boots were on the ground. This has been in the works and no leaks about it.

The problem was never a lack of police.
It doesn't matter how many officers you put on duty, or how aggressively they make arrests if the courts are just going to play "catch and release".
And if you actually kept the bad guys locked up, even a much smaller number of cops could catch up pretty quickly.

Well here's the thing with Judges playing "catch & release": Judges follow (or interpret Constitutionally) the Laws as written by Congress or respective Legislatures, so if the Legislature says "Bail is unfair to the economically challenged, so there'll be no Bail set for the charge of Xxxxx, so the Judge has no choice but to set them free on an appearance, or get creative (well maybe that's the DA's job with a shit-load of charges stemming from the original complaint).
The Eighth Amendment is something I've never really understood because the Language seems subjective.

In the jurisdictions with the biggest problems it's the prosecutors abusing their discretion.

And all the "Bail reform" advocates are trying to apply a band aid on a broken leg anyway.
The problem is a lack of speedy trials. You need to fix that problem.
If it takes 4 years to get a case in front of a jury, then certainly rights are being violated.
The answer is to unfuck the system so that you can get the trial underway in a couple weeks. Not to turn violent criminals loose on the streets for years at a time while we wait.

Near as I can figure, a good many of the DA's are overworked and like any politician, they're thinking about winning the next election; Crimes in NY seems to be hard to prove, so for a win they'll plea bargain down lots of charges and/or serious ones for a guilty plea and recommendation to the Judge for fines and sentencing, which keeps things moving along...on the petty end of the scale is Traffic Citations: They DO NOT want to "go to trial" as it detracts from their money machine by having to bring the Officer(s) in as witnesses, professionals/experts, depositions, etc. which is why unless you're a real habitual fucktard or really screwed the pooch, they'll reduce the charges so long as you plead guilty and most importantly PAY THE FINES, but I digress from the real point of the post....Just remember that Cops, DA's, Judges, Clerks, etc are Government functionaries and typically lazy bastards taking the easiest way to achieve an end.
In some instances, I can see where it's better to ROR someone opposed to financially crippling if not devastating them...Even if you're Bonded out, that's 10% So, when the Judge says $100,000. Bond or $50,000 cash there aren't many that can come up with that amount of cash, or 10K to buy the Bail Bond, and we also have to remember as easy as it is in the face of evidence/witnesses that ALL ARE INNOCENT until PROVED in Court of Guilt...'course back in the day in the South, and perhaps certain neighborhoods of the North, that justice might be dealt before any Court Date is set....catch a pedo in the act: executed in the Street for all to see.

There are already way more police than we need. You just have to actually lock the bad guys up once you catch them.

Take the serious stuff and prosecute it as hard as you can. Pleading things down is wasting your time long term.
Which makes more sense, spend a month putting a guy away for 20 years, or spend a couple hours a month pleading *the same guy* down every month for the next 20 years ?
Sure, lots of stuff will slip through. But pretty soon you'll have the vast majority of the criminals locked up and you won't have to deal with them anymore. Then you can start worrying about the smaller stuff.
If you haven't figured out yet the police are following the dictates of Governors and or Mayors. We would'nt be in this mess if they did their jobs. Justice seems to be suspended in alot of areas.

They make tons of arrests.

I certainly haven't the answers and best source of inside information comes from close Friends in the LEO and Judicial System....some of the shit just blows my mind.
As for not pursuing a lot of crimes, stories on internet forums, Media sources, etc. States like California and Colorado don't even bother with the "petty stuff" which to me reinforces the behavior. "Man is only Good in fear of Societal Retribution"....worked for centuries, not so much anymore, at least in Democrat run places.
Keeping in mind I'm 100% for the deportation of People here illegally with criminal records and those with nefarious intentions, refusing to assimilate, etc. but in the back of my wee mind I wonder if once the illegal problem is solved, if those attentions will be turned inward nationwide as they're being done in DC? (which desperately needed cleaning up) I'm not necessarily opposed to it, but it IS a slippery slope.

Ignoring the small stuff to concentrate on the big stuff only works if you actually put away the criminals.
If you just let them right back out, literally nothing will work. You could suspend the constitution and go full blown police state and it still would change anything.
And I'm afraid that is the actual goal here. Police are becoming progressively more aggressive in a futile attempt to control the crime, and we as a society are tolerating that.
I think the police state is the end goal for the people who are running the revolving door.

Prison doesn't need to be harsh. That's not the point.
It's a warehouse for people who won't conform to society and we don't have the balls to just kill.
The old school theory of "penal colonies" was a great idea. No re-occuring taxpayer expense, just ship them all to some island halfway around the world and leave them to their own devices.
The only problems with that today is the world is small and they'll find their way back too easily, and there aren't any unexplored foreign lands to use.
