From what I understand, it is C&R eligible, not that I have that permit, but wouldn't that make some features allowable?

You don't need a 03FFL to have a NY curio "AW". Absolutely do not register such a weapon. The Hakim was meant to be toploaded, magazines are expensive and scarce. It would take very little, with no permanent modifications and no loss in functionality to the rifle to make it a fixed magazine and therefore not possible to be a NYAW.
On a complete sidenote, while I personally think the Hakim is pretty cool its not for everyone. Its ridiculously long and heavy, obnoxiously loud and 8mm is on the more rare side to find. Don't even dream that you can reload for it. It will eject the brass into the next zip code and mangle the hell out of it in the process.

You could do better with an FN49, it's almost the same, a little shorter and has a fixed 10rnd mag. They made more of them so parts are no problem. I have shot one many times and they have an adjustable gas system so there is very little recoil.

The Hakim has a muzzle device + detachable mag so no go.
The FN 49 has similar issues but some models are fixed mag already.

8MM is my all time favorite cartridge and I, in modernizing my arsenal, just thought it would be nice to be able to have a semi in that caliber. I now reload for it but that Hakim sounds like a case destroyer anyway so screw that. Thank you for the input fellows, I like associating with people that know things that I don't, which is considerable, hah!
Magazines can be fixed, maybe I'll look into the FN49.

The FN49 i shot had a fixed mag and no muzzle device (just a cap pinned on the end of a threaded barrel). Is that good to go for the safe act?

If it is over 50 years old it falls into the Relic & Collection so I don't think the AW bs applies.

It still applies but you have to register. In 50 years, NY can have AR's again but they will have to be registered.

I belive the early Colt SP-1s are now C&R eligible. They were first offered in the mid 60s after all.
