While trying to organize “stuff”, i came across some ammo I had completely forgotten about over the years. Photos included and yes that projectile design is intentional. For scale, it is the one in front of the 5.56x45. Good luck with guessing. My money is on @meketrefe for this one.

Very close @ArmedCorgi It was going to be named the 18 caliber snowflake. The powder used exclaimed I’m offended when ignited, and the projectile whistled REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE while running down range.

It is not something you could find on a sporting goods shelf. That should narrow it done some. Experimental cartridge.

It is hard to say at this angle but if the shoulder is not 30 degree could be a 17 mach IV or a 17 Javelina
although it seems shorter than the Javelina and if the neck is shorter than the mach IV could be
on of the badger versions.
Do you have pics of them standing straight?
There are so many wildcat variants in the smallest bores.

It is not the 4.6x30. Some dimensions. Base diameter - 0.35”, OL - 1.95”, CL 1.42”. I have no way of measuring shoulders. It does appear in Jane’s Infantry Weapons.

@meketrefe As best as I can determine from the limited information available for the round, it was not a wildcat. Rather designed for potential military usage. Ballistically speaking, 40-55 grains, 2600-2800 FPS.

As we haven’t met, you may be nuts. However, your eyes aren’t seeing things. The projectile is not symmetrical. It was designed to yaw when hitting soft material.

It's German for "spoon point". I belive it was Germany's NATO caliber submission that competed with the 5.56x45. And lost obviously

A guy at work got an old rifle from his grandfather years ago and has only that one bullet left. Once he knows what caliber it is he will.buy a bunch of it.
