But again this just goes to show when it comes to 10mm (new production) there is Glock or 1911

Is this a pistol where the dot hangs off the sides? Basically making it a double stack width?
Yes, the baby Glock is small and too hard for me to control well, but a compact size(g19) is big enough to get a good grip on and still reasonable to conceal. The full sized frame(g17) is hard for many to hide with out a big coat. Not to mention when we are stuck with a max of a 10 round mag there is no need for a big pistol if it is for concealment.
I dont think we will see a ton of 10 mm pistols aimed at the carry market. A small light 10mm is just too difficult to shoot well when follow-up shots are considered important.

Have you tried the extra large extension. It'll give you the same Glock 19 grip from the front.
Hell I dont even want a carry size 10mm I'm saying Smith give me a 5in 10mm m&p or bring back the others they had before.

Yes I have on the G29. I do use them on my g26 sometimes too. But, there is still too little contact area for the back strap and the support hand.
I don't know if my fingers are stubby or what but when I say the Glock 19 grip is marginal I am talking about my not being able to wrap my fingers as far around as I'd like. Nothing to do with the length. The G20 I had was difficult for me to get a full purchase on. I find most other manufacturers in this category to be better in this regard, S&W included. I am a very big fan of the Shield especially, its size strikes a perfect balance for me. So I am somewhat dubious of this new Shield model. But I would really like to lay hands on one. All of the above being said, both items in support of and in defiance to I am just a bit intrigued by these new larger size single stack polymer guns. I carried a SIG P239 in the past and I really liked the size of it, being just a bit larger than the G43/Shield class of gun but smaller than G19 style "compacts".
The problem with the P239, and hence its discontinuation, is its weight vs polymer guns without any advantage in firepower.
If I could just carry a G43X or G48 or this new expanded Shield for a while to see if it better suits me than my current Shield/G19 dichotomy.

I'm like you too. Am looking for a local guy who does grip reductions. I don't want to really ship the frame out.
This looks like the same size grip as a standard shield but they added a 4"barrel. So they did the opposite of glock and their g43x

Hmnn I dunno. These models are all dovetailed tightly around each other, folk are bound to fall one way or another. S&W was smart enough to be #2 in the single stack subcompact market. After Walther tested the waters with their PPS Smith & Wesson pounced on it with a tweaked version of their own. Everyone after that is playing catchup.
In fairness S&W was way too slow in recognizing the market for a G19 sized "compact".
I honestly think were glock dropped the ball was the g43x could be what it is, but the 48 should have been a reverse g43x similar to this shield.
And no clue why it took Smith so long to make an m&p the same size as a glock 19. I mean that should have happened no later than 5 years after the mp line took off tbh
It should have been in the initial lineup of M&P pistols upon release.
The G19 had been on the market plenty long enough for Smith to see it was Glock's most popular model.
Yea they messed up with their original m&p "compact" which was a subcompact and should have made a real compact when the released the shield or even the year after the shield
Turns out.... they are offering this in .45acp (and .40)
The slide is the majority of the cost of the gun so what's the point? I'd rather have two complete guns than a selection of parts that can make from one of three configurations. I always thought the modular pistol concept was a gimmick but I think the P320 is nice enough.

I agree. When you buy a firearm, you either want a subcompact, compact, or full sized. I can't see someone changing the size from compact to full sized daily on a whim.
I'm willing to bet that those that buy 320's select a size and leave it at that with the other frame taking up space in a cardboard box.
DAILY? The modular design makes perfect sense in numerous ways. Heck the obvious is the same familiar sights along with the same trigger.

Most people just buy another gun otherwise you have to transfer the trigger and the slide when you want to go from full-sized to a compact and vice versa. I think it's much easier to just have another gun unless you are low on funds and do that whole job when you get home from ccw-ing a compact and want to turn it into a full sized for bedtime .
I guess one can buy a new trigger to make the transition easier but then you have to unload and re-chamber every day with your carry ammo.
