Musk was responding to a plea from the UN World Food Programme's director, who recently said $6 billion could save 42 million people from starvation.

I agree with this, although I find what he said to be funny. I am not a fan of Musk (largely because he is a habitual liar about the state of Tesla), but I suspect that if they could in fact prove this to a reasonable extent that he would likely pay the money.

I wouldn't go as far as sterilizing people, but I agree that at a certain point we have to cut the cord and not be the world's handout in a general sense.

There's only so much we can give. At a certain point the best thing we can offer is helping them take responsibility, and giving them knowledge to improve their situation. We can't fish for them all day, they need to fish for themselves.

In Africa, and probably other countries as well, children are necessary to rural people because they perform a lot of tasks that support the family - tending to the goats and cattle, gathering firewood, getting water from the nearest water source, etc.

Even the worst rural areas or urban ghettos in the fUSA are easy street compared to Africa. Ask me how I know.

Although there's no documented study, in Africa it is said that the #1 cause of death of young girls is being taken by a croc when getting water - getting water is the job usually performed by young and sub-teen girls.

Life in a rural African village is not for the squeamish, it's down right hard as hell. Plus, many tribal considerations come into play. The efforts of Westerners to change centuries long tribal behavior developed to overcome the hardships of such a life, are disgusting. Africans are not the West's play toys.

Although I agree that overpopulation in Africa is holding back "development", this development should not overrule the way these people choose to live. It's no different than the New Covidians trying to force we "unvaxxed" to get the jab or face ostracism, reeducation, or even death.

If you've ever been with Maasai in their villages, and I have, or met them in their nomadic travels (rare now), you would understand that taking away their tribal existence and freedom is a death sentence.

They provide pumps, some materials but most importantly they go there and show them methods and strategies. Then they actually offer loans on goats and other farm stock and make merchant agreements.
They explain after the pump starts to produce fresh water, irrigate, etc... They see a whole village/region micro economy starting to bloom around the water and farms.
The results and long term benefits are so much better than just feeding people.

In surveys in West Virginia where so many people lost their jobs from coal mines shooting down people say they would have preferred to take whatever jobs instead vs gov. Checks. The ideal that the collective good remotely administered is beautiful and nothing new but it never worked.
What good could it come pretending that things are going to work out in the collective if we cannot make them work in our own home, family or village.
