Old eyes - what do I do?

I find that I cannot use these for shooting with aperture sights, but maybe they would work for buckhorn sights where the rear sight is 8-10" from your eye. With my nose right on the charging handle I just get one big blur from the aperture with the diopter safety glasses. Are you able to see...

Old eyes - what do I do?

Low power diopter shooting glasses. A .5 diopter pair made a big difference in my ability to see the front post, but only blurs the target a small bit. The focal length of glasses gets smaller as the diopter number grows, so if you wear +2 to read a book a .5 or .75 may work for pistol shooting.

Ever have a bad range day!

I had a less than perfect day just a few weeks ago. I was shooting a rimfire bench comp and I just have not spent much time on the rifle lately. Before the event I setup a level in a room at home and checked my rifle when I re-attached the bipod to make sure my scope was still mounted level...

Gun Myth #1: The 7.62x39 is a lot more popular than the 223 and 308W.

Popular in what way? Number of guns in use for that caliber, number of countries using the caliber or number of rounds fired? Quite a few countries that use 5.56 and x51 do not fire much of it in an actual battle situation, but the few countries that do certainly use quite a bit of ammo. x39 may...

    Uphill vs. downhill shots.

This right here. Adjust your (elevation) hold exactly as you would if you were standing on the same level as the target. This makes sense if you think about this - fire a rifle at a target 100 yards out on level ground, lets say the bullet drops 2 inches, so you sight in 2 inches high. Fire...

If the election is proven to be rigged , What happens ?

Somehow I think that there is going to be a hell of a long walk to any government building from your parking space.

Dropped the Savage Off for Repairs

That is flat out amazing - the person you spoke to knew that the rifle clearly discharges without the trigger being pulled? Make no mistake your rifle is a seven figure liability suit against Savage just waiting to happen. If I worked for the legal or management team at Savage I would crawl...

    .308 Polymer Lower Receivers? (TNarms)

I was thinking less about the threads themselves and more about the point where the greatest amount of shear force would be if opposite forces are applied to the barrel and buffer tube/stock. The area right between the buffer tube threads and the rear takedown pin hole is a critical area. All...

    .308 Polymer Lower Receivers? (TNarms)

With the AR design I don't think that the lower material matters much in terms of resisting recoil. The bolt locks into the barrel extension and the carrier recoils back into the buffer tube. About the only thing that sees much recoil force on an AR lower is the take down pins, and unless the...

Dropped the Savage Off for Repairs

IMO that gun should go directly back to Savage and you should have a complete replacement, not repairs. Something is very wrong with the striker/trigger interface if it can fire without the trigger being pulled. Did you buy the gun new or used? If it is used there is a possibility that...

    School Me on Blowback

I am no meketrefe, but I will take a stab at it. Blow back requires that the bolt (or whatever is the back of the chamber) contains enough resistance to keep the brass in the chamber until the pressure is low enough so the brass can contain it (think case head separation). That means some...

pistol permits in New York are surging due to fear of coming government action

She likely grew up in a home that never burned down as well, does she use that to justify not having any smoke detectors or fire extinguishers in the house now? Perhaps she does, some people do reason that way. The gun and smoke detector are not for when you think there will be problems - if you...

Cheapest, Good Quality .308 Bolt Gun

The Howa triggers are pretty nice for the price and the actions are pretty good also - pretty slick bolt and the receiver has a flat bottom and an intregal recoil lug. Aftermarket options are so-so for the rifles, LSI sells a detachable mag kit which is in the $100 range. If you plan to keep the...

    Would This be Legal?

As far as I can tell tailights need to be red and visible at a 1000ft distance (1952 or later manufacture) and stop lights need to be red or amber visible for 500ft. I would expect that many LE officers would be glad to invite you to traffic court to try to argue just what "red" means or how you...
