And what about winter? Here in the North Country, we get frost up to 4' deep. It would be a little difficult to dig down to your cache quickly unless you have access to heavy equipment.
Yeah, Amerigeddon wasn't bad for a low budget film. Another SHTF type film is Battle: Los Angeles It's pretty intense, and kind of makes you wonder how you would react to that type of situation.
There is already a list of suggested prepper frequencies, and a protocol to follow, for those interested. The details are available at: SHTF Survivalist Radio Frequency Lists
Regarding the question about transmitting distances, you're not comparing apples to oranges. Typical dispatch...
I don't use the Panasonic charger for my eneloops. I use a variety of chargers, from solar ones, to 12 volt chargers that run off of my home solar system.
For long term use, I go with the Panasonic eneloop batteries. The eneloop batteries can be recharged over 2000 times, and if stored they'll still retain 70% of their charge after 10 years.

I have a couple of them. I've not found the Henry AR-7's to be picky regarding ammunition. I only use the Henry magazines and I've never had a problem. I actually prefer the AR-7's over the take-down 10/22's, they're a lot of fun to shoot. The older AR-7's did have issues with ammunition...
Yup, hunger will make people unpredictable. How many Americans have truly experienced hunger? How's that saying go? We're only nine meals from anarchy... And parents will resort to desperate measures in an effort to feed their children. I think weather/seasons would have a great impact as to...
Interesting scenario. The first thing to do would be to gather information. What isn't working? Do watches function? Are vehicles running? If so, which vehicles run and which ones don't? Are there aircraft in the sky? Without electricity, your world gets much smaller. Solar panels are...
I guess football is for those who like to watch and sit on their asses rather than actively participate in a sport. I don't know very many people who are really interested in football anymore. Go shooting U.S.A.!
None of my vehicles are dedicated bug out vehicles, they're simply vehicles, or tools for mobility. Different vehicles for different situations, just like we have different firearms for different applications. Some vehicles are more adept at traversing varied terrain than others, you don't see...
Dual sport motorcycles offer mobility and the ability to transport gear and a passenger. For instance a Yamaha XT250 will roll at 70 mph on a highway, yet will work fine on back country trails. I picked up a hitch carrier, since the bike weighs under 300 lbs., I can carry it on the back of my...
Yeah "Day of Wrath" is a frightening book. It certainly instills upon me the need for concealed carry, and the need for training and practice. Forstchen's EMP series starting with" One Second After" is excellent too.
I have a pistol grip with a butt stock on my Mossberg 500; the original slide release was an issue, because my hands are small, and it was awkward accessing the release. I ended up purchasing an extended slide release and it works great. I like the handling of the pistol grip and the butt...
I've been a fan of apocalyptic fiction since I was a kid, as we had to read "Alas Babylon", "A Canticle for Leibowitz", and "When Worlds Collide" for a class. In the 80's, the novel "Lucifer's Hammer" made a big impression on me, it's a long, detailed and scary book. More recently, "One Second...
The do make them for women, google is your friend...sometimes. Anyways Infidel body armor carries multiple carriers for smaller statured folks: Tactical Plate Carriers & Armor - Infidel Body Armor
I use the Boafengs for loaner radios. Personally, I use an Icom ID-51A, because it's waterproof, has a built in GPS, and it has the capability of transmitting text data, photos, etc. when using the digital mode. Plus it gives a small degree of privacy, as analog radios are unable decipher...
Baofeng has been releasing essentially the same radio with cosmetic changes. Performance-wise they'll be the same. If you opened them up to look at the circuit boards, they'll essentially be the same. Baofeng keeps releasing these new models because amateurs frequently want the latest gear...
I've been using a military surplus sleep system, for temperatures down to zero. You can't beat the price, plus if you purchase the entire package you get a goretex bivy bag. For temperatures below zero I use a LL Bean synthetic fill bag with an additional bivy bag. And yes, I've slept in that...
You're on a forum... don't be bashful. Today, a major concern is OPSEC, and rightly so. However, if you want to start a group, you have to take that first step. I find that I don't have enough face to face contact with people to find folks with similar interests. I guess I need to be...
Yeah, depending upon the make and model of the radio, there are 12 volt chargers, and 12 volt battery eliminators, which take the place of batteries in the radio. The 12 volt DC chargers are typically fitted with a cigarette lighter plug. There are 12 volt DC folding solar panels, which work...
Yeah, the Baofeng UV-5R is one of the best buys out there. I'd recommend programming it with a free program called Chirp. The programming software that comes with the radio sucks. I've seen it priced reasonable on both Amazon and on eBay. Baofeng has come out with their model R760 which is...
Better pack some vitamins along with those beans and pasta. A lot of "experts" advise storing the foods that you regularly eat, which means the food should be rotated on a regular basis. And don't forget to store food for your animals too.
I have several Henry AR-7's, a 10//22 take down, and a M6. I prefer the AR-7 because it's very light, and when it's in the stock; it's impervious to the weather. I have not experienced any jamming issues with my Henry AR-7's, and I often throw one in my backpack if I'm out for a day hike. You...
