My friend faced down an AR-armed perp today and made it out alive. I was involved in apprehending the second perp. I've been involved in a handful of shootings in my career and this was by far the most organized, tactical and safe response I've ever seen. The audio is out there somewhere. I've heard it on facebook.

Oddly enough, he was caught the good old fashioned way: cops driving around spotted him when he tried to cross a road from one stretch of woods to another.

I was a few hundred feet away in a car and got there was he was being tackled. His buddy was supposedly hit 9 times from 14 total shots. That's a damn fine hit ratio, especially since one of the shooters has about a year on the job.

I've been in bad situations in parts of the city where the cops are supposedly "better". Nothing I've seen has ever compared to this response. It was amazing. The second Sgt on that recording is a good friend of mine. His calmness and tactical foresight were downright stunning. I'd take him at my back any day of the week two times.

News had press conference with NYPD Terrence Monahan where he clearly referred to recovered guns as being "automatics" was this true or more propaganda?

For those who asked, the guns were 3 handguns (one a revolver) and the AR. The media is retarded when it comes to guns as we know. Unfortunately, older law enforcement-types do refer to semi-auto's as automatics. That's why "full/fully automatic" is a term you'll also hear. An "automatic" is actually what we typically refer to as a semi-auto.

When you grossly incorrect descriptions of firearms in the news, that is the media. Typically the media has zero interest in learning the slightest thing about firearms, so they are usually wrong because they end up apply sensationalism to their references. No different than any other mainstream media BS reporting.

They were wearing bullet resistant vests with trauma plates, but our ceramic plate carriers are in the truck and rarely accessible immediately when needed. Besides, they are brand new (like a month at most) in the cars so most will forget they are even there.

For worst case scenarios like a school shooting, I have a full plate carrier with extra mags in my personal vehicle. My daughters' school is in my precinct. I'm not taking any chances.

Makes sense. I have a carrier made to my specifications with 3 mag pouches and a fixed blade on the molly setup along with a first aid pack. I figure why not? I'm glad you have one at your disposal, I wouldn't want to have your job without one with there being trends of mass shootings everywhere.
