I'll second DCPA. I'm a member there, and we have monthly IDPA matches, and monthly USPSA matches. We also do monthly Steel Challenge shoots if you're interested. Come on by tuesday nights for the Practical Action League. Lots of cool people there, and it's a lot of fun.
Similarly, I HATE cleaning weapons because it reminds me of basic, sitting there in silence, knowing it won't be good enough for the DS, and then getting smoked. It's been..... almost 4 years since I was at basic, and I still hate cleaning, especially my AR
