so I have an uncle who has a vacation home in PA. Is it legal for me to leave my handguns there (locked and properly stored, and maybe even with the cylinder or slide removed and kept with me just for both of our's protection) while having a NY license and not having residency in PA?
yeah I'm not planning on having anything illegal. I have zero desire to challenge the police or anyone on what is legal and what is not, so everything will be compliant. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. Thanks
so, this may be a very dumb question, but how does NY check the legality of your rifles? I ask not to know how to violate the law but to make sure I am compliant when I come up. Do police go to gun ranges and check weapons? Do you need to bring them to a police department and have them give you...
fair enough, I'll probably grab a 10-22 at some point, I mean everyone should probably own one in the course of their collecting. I like the 15-22 because of the AR platform and practicing with it cheaper than a standard AR.
yeah I was thinking the same thing since you definitely cannot swap the trigger guards on it. I'll probably do the spur for now and I'm putting a thorden on another build I'm doing so I can swap it over and see if i don't like the spur
thank you very much for the information. I'm probably most upset about the Smith as well, but it is replaceable. The problem with having and FFL hang on to them in NY is that there is a chance that I may move out of NY after a year, so I don't know how much of a hassle/how expensive it would...
Thanks for the input, I will do all of that. I saw some discussion on the LI firearms about new owners, but wasn't sure what that is about. I can't believe an anti gun group bought that forum. there goes my plans to donate to that site. Thanks for the heads up
if by volunteering you mean being dragged back by the wife and family things, then I guess so...but I don't take it personally, i'm just glad I found a forum of people to commiserate with
yeah, don't think I haven't thought about that already. I guess we'll see in a year, but depending on the next steps I take in my career, we may have no choice but to move out...which wouldn't be the worst thing
awesome, thanks. I would be buying it now while I'm still living in maryland so I can but the fixed stock no threaded barrel version and add the spur myself before bringing it to NY. Thanks again
That might work well. How Do I find FFLs on here? I looked at the vendor forum, but the only one i see is rescue stuff and they are about an hour away from where I'll be moving
yeah for sure. I'm likely going to do that with one of my AR builds I'm working on. I just haven't seen it for a .22 AR, although I don't know what the difference would be. Thanks
and to answer your last statement, I am not "one of them." I moved to maryland for medical training (my wife and I are both physicians) and work here while she is finishing training. prior to this, I did med school in Michigan and lived in CT for a bit. I'd love to move to PA or even florida...
Yeah I know, and I explicitly went in to a field that would allow me to live anywhere in the country after having grow up on Long Island and experiencing the "fun" of NY taxes and laws and nonsense. But, sadly, my wife and I will be moving back for a bit for a multitude of reasons, including...
no, queens is physically on Long Island, but of try and tell someone from Queens that and they will try and cut off your fun bits. Long island is 2 counties (Nassau and Suffolk) and is NOT a borough of NYC (Strong Islanders may also try and cut off those fun bits if you try and say otherwise)
yeah the point of having it would be to shoot it so I don't want to strip it down. And it is like an AR (it's a .22 based on the S&W AR platform) but I don't want a fixed mag in a .22 rifle. I'd rather take off the pistol grip if I can and be able to reload mags. not having a flash hider is...
I know, but unfortunately I have to for a year. I thought maryland was bad when I moved here, but I know I'll be missing the laws here once I move to NY, which is horrible to have to say
A little background, I will be moving to Long Island from maryland in July. before I go, I would like to pick up a S&W 15-22. As far as I know, they do not make a NY compliant version. So I was thinking of getting an NJ compliant version (fixed stock, non-threaded barrel, no grenade launcher...
Hi everyone, as the title says, I will be moving to Long Island (Nassau County) in July. I'm originally from Long Island but have been living in Maryland for a bit. As disheartened as I am with NY gun laws in general, I'm excited to become a part of the gun community in New York.
I'll be...
