And btw, great choice on the lower! The threaded bolt catch roll pin really helps. Just remember that you do need to buy a set screw if you want to take advantage of the retained takedown spring. Aero parts kits come with one.
I started two threads here that are filled with great information on building both featureless and fixed mag carbines. The folks here were super helpful and patient with me!
https://nygunforum.com/threads/building-a-featureless-ar.37022/...
Yeah, I’m not in a crazy rush. It’s going in a finished build to replace a Rise Armament single stage trigger, so it’s not like I’m dead in the water waiting. I’ve realized that I prefer two stage setups.
Let me know what you hear from them, and good luck!
I’m on month #2 waiting for mine.
I actually reached out to them and asked, and they just said “ We are looking at a minimum of 6-8 weeks from order to ship for the triggers .”
I emailed sales@larue.com
I got a couple little parts for some rifles yesterday.
Radian Ambi safety for Thordsen build. I’m not crazy about it, as even the shorter lever ends up under your trigger finger a bit. Set to short throw mitigates it a bit, but it’s still there. That said, now I can actually manipulate the...
So I expected this thread to go one of two ways when I posted it.
A: “that’s pretty bad, you should replace before firing again for these reasons...”
Or
B: the way it went.
I appreciate y’all, lol.
Thing is a tack driver, though! I wanted to sight in a new red dot, and it was shooting crummy...
Upon inspection after an expensive hour at the range, I noticed a scratch in my barrel extension. It very well could have been there when I bought the barrel. Is this problematic in an accuracy/reliability sense? It’s in the roughly 11 o’clock position in this phot.
This is a great thread. Thanks to OP for starting it, and thanks to the members for sharing their knowledge and experience. I hit a brick wall shopping for lights (due to an over abundance of options/criteria), one for a PCC, the other for an AR, and this is a needed kick in the pants to get it...
I have a Strike Eagle 1-6x on an AR. I haven’t done any classes with it (ie, real training, with bumps, drops, and whatnot), but it holds zero at the range so far, glass is clear, reticle is sharp. Good for what I do.
Thanks for the education. That’s why I ask here, you folks always shoot straight (hurr durr).
Sucks, but I can wait...I’ve got what I absolutely need, just want more toys.
This thread got me thinking...
Anyone with any experience on a VZ58? Atlantic sells a fixed mag version (sold out, obviously), and it seems kinda cool. Can load via stripper clips. Hmmm
That video was f’ing awesome, haha. I cracked up at the “aim small, miss small” part.
Duly noted, regarding the tools required. I didn’t realize just how much was involved as far as job-specific tools.
Thanks for the input. I’m not dissuaded yet, but it’s definitely something to chew on.
I...
For a few months now, I’ve had my eyes out for some steel-eating rifles of Russian origin. My first shooting experience beyond carnival games and lever .22s were with a friend’s AK, so I’ve got a soft spot.
I don’t really like the options out there for NY compatible platforms. I hate spur...
That’s where I’m at with it. The AK is definitely the jack of all trades, where the MP5 is a bit of a one trick pony. It does that trick really, really well, though.
AK for me. I learned how to shoot on one, so there is an element of nostalgia, too.
What is the typical wait time? Could I expect this to get longer, given the election/political landscape? Any other tips? I have a squeaky clean record, and a job for which I’m already fingerprinted/checked, so hoping for quick and easy. Thanks!
Yeah, it’s old, aka asbestos. It’s one of those leave it and it probably won’t Jack you up things. We’re planning on redoing our first floor soon, though, so abatement will be an expense.
Honestly, that solution wasn’t even on my radar. I’m still pretty new to the AR scene, and the two compliance solutions that are nearly exclusively mentioned are featureless or fixed mag. Thanks for mentioning this, it seems like it could be a cool solution moving forward.
It’s tempting, but now I wanna get better at actually shooting. I’ve done basic marksmanship, but I want to take a couple defensive carbine classes.
I’m all ears on that straight pull upper, though:D
Smart! I actually lost two of the front pin detents in my first build. I was about to call it a day and go to lgs for more parts, and my dog walked in and started sniffing around a bass amp or something. I went over to check it out, and sure enough, he found one of the detents. That front pin...
The Aero enhanced lower has a threaded hole where that spring/detent goes. As I said above, it’s a pain since it doesn’t actually come with the set screw, and you gotta trim the spring a C hair, but it is nice not having to deal with that thing once it’s screwed down.
So I got antsy last night and decided to just put the bolt catch in, maaaaybe the trigger group. Two hours later, this is where I ended up!
A few points of note:
The front pivot pin idiot tool pictured in another post was a LIFESAVER (eyesaver?). My first build, it took me literally hours to...
New parts day, and a big F U to Optics Planet, again.
Wilson Stock
Magpul K2+ grip
Magpul 10rd mag to be fixed
I ordered these parts PLUS a muzzle device from Optics Planet on September 16. I know, I already said I would never order from the, again after they cancelled my complete upper due to...
A few years back I shot a friends Desert Eagle in .50. I got brass faced HARD, and it left a perfect .50 circle shallow cut in my forehead. It didn’t bleed much, but it puffed up pretty good.
Interesting, indeed. Thanks for posting it!
A few questions.
How did you stack the newspaper behind the water?
How deeply into the wet newspaper did the bullets tend to penetrate?
With your deer, how quickly are they typically down for the count? DRT, or some chasing?
Thanks again for posting...
In between fantasies of Mosins and SKS, I got these over the past couple weeks.
Aero LPK- used it in my last build, worked just fine.
Aero enhanced buffer tube.
The trigger you see there is actually the Rave 140 I had in my last build. I picked up a Geissele G2S from the classifieds here and...
Trust me...I got that email and I already have a shopping cart set up. I’m just having a hard time swinging on 400 bucks by the time it’s shipped and transferred.
I appreciate the responses and the collective wisdom, folks. I know there are objectively better rifles for the money out there, but...
Nah, got more parts, though! I’ll be updating my other thread shortly. Got the LPK, buffer tube, and mag fixing device in the mail.
I‘m just getting handsy with the relative surplus of steel ammo around. One of my LGS keeps a pretty good running stock of odd military/Russian ammo, too.
I’ve been bitten by the com bloc bug. I missed the boat on the SKS...just a few short months ago they were 350 bucks...now, if you can find them...yeesh.
I then expand my focus a bit to include the 762x54r. Damn cool cartridge; in fact, now I want one.
So naturally, I started looking at...
I have some parts on the way, will be updating shortly, but in the meantime, I have a question.
I’ve still gotta pickup a stock and grip. If it were your build, would you go FDE all around to roughly match the receivers and handguard, or would you set it off with a different color? If so, which...
That Wilson looks sweet! I like that it has an assembly specifically designed to take out the slack...I hate slack in my firearms. Thanks for putting me onto that.
Which is a whole lot of words to say “I didn’t realize how heavy my first build would be, and I want to play with the fun, evil features.” :D
All kidding aside though, it still weighs just a little more than my bone stock PC carbine...that’s a heavy, fun lil package.
