Except that you guys are ignoring the fact that if you go lighter you would exacerbate the faster unlocking time from the 16" bbl+carbine gas length combo, increase the cycling speed giving the mag less time to present, and have less mass helping you drive the bolt home under adverse conditions...
Interesting, I didn't know that about .30 carbine. But couldn't you flip that and say the 7.62 is also useful in the same way the .30 carbine, but it also hits with slightly more momentum?
Great! I was hoping it would help someone out, even if a lot of it is personal preference. You really have to feel out as many as you can, even if you can't shoot them all.
... and I'm not really seeing any downside. I have a 16" barrel with carbine gas length and an adjustable gas block. I was running a standard carbine buffer before and I wanted to try something heavier. I got the H3 since I could then make the other in between weights from the two. I put it in...
Are those for single loading, or will they fit in a mag?
Seems fine to me, only thing I'm not getting is the power factor. I don't know what that's based on, so it's just numbers to me. If you're looking for constructive criticisms, I guess you could remove the metric (cm, Mil), most people...
I think I've pretty much decided between the last 3 contestants. I'm going to go with a Beretta 92. Not sure which model yet. Reasons being: I prefer the recoil impulse of the 92 to that of the Sig P226 (which should be very similar or even better than the SP2022 I was considering), and I prefer...
What I really want to know is, what the frag thresholds of MK262 and BH 77gr TMK are. I've looked for it before and I can't remember if I ever found a good answer.
While looking around I actually found this in case you're interested. It's a Beretta brand aftermarket part:
Beretta Rear Sight Beretta 92 96 Target Adjustable White Dots
Looks like another company makes a version too.
I only a tried it in one configuration, and I asked the clerk which one it had, he said the smallest one. The size seemed fine, it was more the shape that didn't agree with me. I don't know if the other backstraps actually change the shape?
I guess just personal preference. It's one less control I have to worry about. If I carried it (which I can't right now), I don't think I would choose cocked and locked mode. So then the safety just becomes redundant to me with a DA/SA trigger. But it's not like I have experience carrying...
That's an interesting point. But I think I would probably stick with Beretta since I would change the safety/decocker out for a decocker only. I don't know if Taurus offers a decocker only model?
I actually did handle the PPQ quickly. I liked the trigger pull a lot, but I didn't love their trigger safety. I think the grip and the overall shape of the VP9 fit me better, even though they're similar. I should probably try the PPQ again though, as I don't remember all its details.
I didn't...
Also forgot to mention I fired a FNX .45 at the range. I figured I'd kill two birds with one stone, try the FNX since it's almost identical to the FNS (except the trigger) and also try the .45 ACP round for the first time.
FN FNX .45: A good shooting gun, I felt like I could recover a sight...
And then there were 3:
Beretta 92
Sig SP2022
FN FNS
I may just skip the ones I haven't tried yet if I make a final decision soon. I can always come back to them for a 2nd pistol. @Darth , I can't find a P99 anywhere to handle it!
Went back to the stores and did a second round of handling of the short list pistols. Here's the ones I eliminated:
Beretta PX4: upon further review, I find the trigger to be slightly lighter than the 92, but not as crisp. I find the mag release a bit too hard to press.
Sig P320: upon further...
Umm, no its just a standard AR with a telescoping stock. Don't know where you got that from. :D
I'm not talking about right or wrong lop. I'm saying I want to use the AR with a shorter lop, I feel it has better balance in that length. The only problem with using a short LoP, is that the...
I'd go with 5.56 for the first one, just for the novelty of it being the original round for the AR15, but there's lots of good AR calibers out there.
Like @meketrefe says, all the mechanical accuracy comes from the barrel, chamber, and bolt-chamber lock up (and I guess muzzle device sometimes)...
Yeah I don't mind the standard grips, but they're not as comfortable when I run the stock with a short LoP.
I'm just looking for some other grip ideas. Who makes some of the more vertical grips, Magpul, Bravo Co., HKParts, others?
I just got the more vertical Bravo Company AR pistol grip Mod 2, the one with multiple inserts. I'm sending it back, I didn't think any of the inserts felt that great. I like a nice tight pocket for the web of my hand to tuck into, and this grip didn't have that. Also the thickness contour...
Update:
Held some more pistols in the store today. I didn't shoot anymore yet, but my list of possibles is narrowing nicely. Here's what I looked at today...
H&K USP: wasn't loving the grip shape.
H&K P30SK: I wanted to try the full size, but I tried the compact. I also wasn't loving this...
Damn, now I feel guilty. That's probably what I should do now, but it might have to come a little later. Maybe the beginning of this coming winter I can get around to the more serious stuff. Right now I'm jonesing to just jump in to ownership I guess.
I guess the question is how do you know if it just "feels weird" and you can train into it, or if it's just not a good fit for you? Can't you train into almost anything? I'm located in the Buffalo suburbs, Amherst/Clarence border area.
Maybe I just need to shoot it then?
I'll keep that in mind. I'll have to handle it again next time I go. I asked the clerk about the adjustable backstraps, and he said the G19 he gave me to handle had the smallest one attached. He could have been wrong though.
There were a lot of things I liked about the G19, but it didn't fit my hand well. The bottom right side of the grip rested in a strange part of my palm, giving the feeling that it was pushing into my hand more so than the rest of the grip (if that makes sense).
I'm not too worried, I feel like it would be really hard to pick my perfect one on the first purchase, like hitting a home run on the first pitch lol. I'm just trying to decide based on what I know so far, which is 99% feel, even if it's not the best indicator. I try not to be swayed by...
