I have to admit this has been a good gun discussion that we haven't had here in a while, keep it up gents. I feel like I need to research the 6.8 more. I really don't know the ranges of bullet weights avialible and the ballistics to go with them.
I got a similar beef with 6.8. Factory loads are kinda short n' fat.I have to admit this has been a good gun discussion that we haven't had here in a while, keep it up gents. Not everything needs to be long as skinny like you like it.I got a similar beef with 6.8. Factory loads are kinda short n' fat.

The factory loads use the 110gr and 115gr a lot. hornady loads the 120gr Vmax that is a good proven bullet for white tail and hogs.I got a similar beef with 6.8. Factory loads are kinda short n' fat.
That's interesting. If it didn't cost a buck a round or more I'd build my next AR in it.The 6.8 rocks. The thing is the commercial ammo is rather mild since most still load for spec 1 vs spec 2.
But there are some good hunting loads. One load that I like (reload only) is the 95gr TTSX that pushes the
bullets to 2850fps from a 18" barrel.
This beats all the other popular calibers in a short carbine including the grendel that works better with
longer barrels.
The 95gr ttsx hits like a lighting rod at the ranges folks normally hunt.
What can the 6.8 do with heavy subsonic as compared to 300BLK?The factory loads use the 110gr and 115gr a lot. hornady loads the 120gr Vmax that is a good proven bullet for white tail and hogs.
Again they load rather mild. Ballistics still pretty impressive. The good thing the brass is pretty good for reloads.
I like speed so the 80-100gr is my sweet spot and ballistic coefficients are pretty good for most 300 yards work.
That's interesting. If it didn't cost a buck a round or more I'd build my next AR in it.
Great analogy. Both the 308 and 7mm-08 loaded with 120gr bullets will hit like a 270 at the ranges people normally hunt.
Companies do not load that hot because then people might never buy other calibers for hunting.
This happens quite a lot with other simple calibers.
The 358 Winchester and 35 whelen will take the place of a magnum to tackle the largest animals but with less powder
and much lower budget.
The 284 will take the place of a 280 from a short action and standard 308 bolt.
A 35 caliber Remington Ultra Magnun with a 250gr bullet will take down anything walking on this planet although
many countries only allow 375 minimum like in Africa. Of course the 375 Rem mag will also brutalize anything
on its path.
Once you look at ballistics carefully you will find we probably will do everything we need to do with 1/8 of the calibers
we have available and w/o any need for expensive exclusive ones.
We need to figure out how to get you reloading. That's interesting. If it didn't cost a buck a round or more I'd build my next AR in it.
Find me living quarters with a suitable space and a job that gives enough money and time and I will.We need to figure out how to get you reloading.
I understand that was the same reasons I hesitated. I will tell you I could use a small house to reload and not have enough room. With that said its very doable to reload in small space. A closet that you can stack totes with a 3'x3' area for a portable press you would be set. Hell I've seen travel size presses you could take in your rig. You could pack a pound of powder and 100 brass bullets and primers and reload on your down time. There's lots of options if you want to take on small space reloading.Find me living quarters with a suitable space and a job that gives enough money and time and I will.
More like 8 calibers total, not 1/8th of the million bazillion that we currently have.....I think it's more like 1/50th of the calibers.
